They lived for most of their lives at Churcham, Glos. Harriet died in 1884 and Philip in 1891. Both deaths were registered at Westbury on Severn, Glos. In c.1835 they had a daughter, Elizabeth who was born in Hereford city, but she was looked after by a family called WHYSUM (1841 Census) as she is not on any census with Philip & Harriet, though they had numerous later children - perhaps they were not married when their first child was born ? Joshua (or Thomas?) Leach - (Storridge - Herefordshire)
Further to research a couple of years ago, I now have the birth certificate for my great grandfather, Thomas Leach (born 8th October 1858 at Storridge). What looked like Josaia or Isaiah for his father's name on his marriage certificate (to Sarah Ann Whillock, 5th Feb 1882) has turned out to be Joshua Leach, groom and gardener. His mother was Elizabeth Leach, formerly Brookes. On the 1861 census, Thomas (31) and Elizabeth Leech (39), living near the toll road at Storridge, had a son Thomas of the right age (2). Other children were John aged 4 and Alice aged 8 months. This Thomas was a coachman, and came from Broadway, Worcs. (My great grandparents Thomas and Sarah also named two of their children John and Alice). Searching through BMD has not revealed a marriage of Thomas (or Joshua) Leach and Elizabeth Brookes (I have also looked at other relevant spellings). The only Joshua I have found in the area on the census shows up in Broadway in 1851, aged 24, wife Sarah (22) (BMD shows her as Rachel Symmonds) with mother in law Elizabeth Simmons. He is still married to Sarah in 1861. I'm beginning to wonder if my Joshua, who married Elizabeth Brookes changed his name to Thomas!

I believe that my g-g-grandfather James NUTT was born in Thornbury, Herefordshire, in around 1782. This is the place of origin given on a marriage between James NUTT and Elizabeth PRICE at Bromyard, Herefordshire in 1816, although the 1851 census says Tenbury, I can't get back any further in this line and should be very grateful for any assistance.

red mail Jacob - (Tupsley - Herefordshire)
I'm looking for any information related to the Jacob family who resided at Hampton Park "River Bank", Tupsley, Hereford. My great Aunt Lucy Jane French married Hamer Jacob, son of John Jacob - a Chemical Manufacturer. They emigrated to Australia sometime in the late 1880's i believe. Their son Leonard Jacob was born in Mildura, Victoria, Australia in 1891. Lucy's younger sister Lillian Ruth French married John Winter Hill in 1899 and either died in England or on the ship to Australia from salmonella poisoning. In Australia the widowed John Hill and his young son, also John Winter Hill, lived next door to Lucy and Hamer Jacob as had been Lillian's desire.

red mail COOPER, Claverley, Upper Sapey, and Eastham - (Upper Sapey - Herefordshire)
Claverley marriage records show George JONES married Sarah Jane COOPER in November 1881. Sarah Jane gives her age as 23 and her father's name as John COOPER, a labourer. 1891 census records her as Jane JONES, age 29 born at Upper Sapey, Herefordshire. (Actually Worcestershire, but that's what the census shows.) 1901 also shows birthplace as UPPER SAPEY. The name JANE is used in preference to SARAH JANE for christenings of several children. The best match I can find is for a JANE COOPER, daughter of JOHN and MARY ANN COOPER, baptised at Eastham, Worcestershire in February 1861. Other children of this couple are Thomas, Ann, Isabella, John, Mary, Amelia, Elizabeth, William, James, Sarah (born about 1866), Charles and Susan. The child Sarah, is not likely to be the person who married George Jones in 1881 as there are other good record matches for her. John and Mary COOPER are probably John COOPER and MARY ANN RUDD who married at EASTHAM in 1850. They moved from EASTHAM to UPPER SAPEY between 1861 and 1871, and were living in Upper Sapey in 1881. The Claverley 1881 marriage record is proven, but it conflicts with likely census matches for Jane on age and forenames. Do you have any information to prove or disprove this family match please? I can find no other possible matches for 'John Cooper' that also have links to Upper Sapey, but if the match is good, then Jane Cooper was already 'in service' in 1871, age given as 11 years so 1861 is the only census record of Jane (aged 9 months) at home with her parents. Mary Ann Cooper probably died between 1881 and 1891; and in 1891 the widowed John Cooper seems to be the Parish Clerk. Please get in touch if you are connected or have any further information.
