red mail FREEMANTLE, POWELL & NEWPORT at the Fulling Mill
Henry FREEMANTLE was the Miller at the Fulling Mill, near Whitchurch, at the time of the 1851 & 1861 Census. His wife was Ann (nee POWELL) but she died in 1854 leaving Henry with their one child Rose Hannah then aged six years. In 1867 however Henry found himself bankrupt but he is still calling himself a miller in 1871 when he is on the Isle of Wight. At the age of 52 in 1879 Henry dies and is registered in Whitchurch. Henry's mother, in her will written in the same year, also provided for the three children of Mary NEWPORT (b 1837, Tufton, Hampshire) 'who for some years lived with my late son Henry'. They were William Henry, Louisa Jane and Agnes.

It would appear that they died in the same month as each other in 1858 - maybe a shared illness?

red mail Taylor's of Whitchurch
I have traced my Taylor ancestors direct line back through Whitchurch until the late 1600's starting with Clement Taylor b.1670. I believe that there is a possibility that they are linked to Thomas Taylor who rented the manor house at Bradley in the middle 1600's. Thomas' wife's name was Elizabeth and Clement could have been a son. Although my direct line remained static in or close by Whitchurch obviously sons and daughters of the various generations spread further afield through work, marriage etc. For instance my 3xg grandfather married Elizabeth Knight in Overton but their family were born in Whitchurch and Harry was the Parish Clerk of Laverstock for some years (late 1700's to early 1800's) my 2xg grandfather George was a shoe maker in Whitchurch. Other Taylor's are found in Longparish, Hurstbourne Priors etc.
