red mail Harris in Toothill/Romsey
I am trying to trace ancestry back to England from the U.S. My 2nd great grandfather Albert Harris (born 17 Mar 1839) emigrated to the U.S. in 1869 with wife Sarah Naylor and children Kate, Jennie, Alfred, and Ernest. Albert died in 1899 and his obituary noted he was born in Toothill. His brother Mark also emigrated in 1869 or 1870 and he passed away in 1898, again listing Toothill as place of birth. I believe I have located the Harris family on the 1841 census. They were found in Romsey Extra, District 4A. The father is Benjamin, wife Eliza, and children Benjamin, William, Charles, Martha, Mark, Harriett, Albert, and Maria. I obtained a copy of the marriage of Sarah Naylor to Albert Harris on 21 Jul 1859. His brother Mark married Anne Primm Metcher on the same date. They both list their father as a Woodman. I am assuming this would be the equivelant of a carpenter, but I am not sure about this. Albert, Mark, and brother William all moved to Buffalo, Missouri when they came to the U.S. A family history notes that a nephew named Thomas Henry Harris also came to the U.S. at this time and that the father of Thomas had passed away shortly after his birth. All four of these men took up the profession of baker in the U.S. I am trying to find out more information about their parents and any siblings who stayed in England. Any assistance would be appreciated. Please forgive me if I've left out any key information that would be useful. I am new to genealogy. Thanks, Robert.
