red mail Sophia Cairnduff, Hannaford Family
Trying to discover what happened to my aunt. She was married in 1923 to David Cairnduff, a sailor, at the Presbyterian Church, St Michael's Rd., Landport. Her address on the marriage cert is given as 29 Holloway St., Landport which was the house of aWilliam Hannaford and Nelly Hannaford was one of the marriage witnesses. Sophia's maiden name was Levin, she was from Liverpool and as far as I know was not related to the Hannafords. Sophie and David had four children - Margaret, Gordon, Nellie andDavid - between 1925 and 1930 and David junior died in 1933 at 7 Henderson Road, Eastney. This is the last address I have. I traced the two daughters some years ago who told me their parents split up some time in the 30s, they were sent to their paternal grandmother in Glasgow and never saw their mother again. their father died in the War so they weren't able to get any information from him as to the whereabouts of their mother. This is all such a long time ago, but if anyone is connected withthe Hannafords or remembers Sophie or her family, please get in touch with me.

red mail Roach, Hugh & Norris, Elen
I am interested in more information about my great grandparents, Hugh & Ellen (Norris) ROACH. Hugh was born in 1851 in Prestatyn, Flintshire, Wales the son of Thomas & Ellen (Roberts) Roach. He joined the Royal Marine Artillery by at least 1881 (if not earlier). He was stationed at Portsmouth in 1881 and married Elen NORRIS, dau. of John & Jane (Foster) NORRIS in March of 1875. They had one son, John Thomas ROACH, born in 1876 at Portsmouth. The family was in Victoria, BC, Canada by 1890. Hugh left in 1888 and Ellen and John joined him in Canada in 1890. A search for naval records for Hugh has resulted in little found. He was officially "No. 483 in "D" Company" but was "lost" to service July 10, 1891. Subsequent records in Canada indicate he was a Naval Pensioner and was receiving a pension for his service. Family lore is that he was a gunnerman and had become deafened in the service which is why he was offered a pension and moved to Canada. I am interested in finding information about Hugh ROACH's service, family members and/or about his wife's family, John & Jane (Foster) NORRIS. Thank you, Carol
