red mail Ballards Portsea and Kent
My GGGfather was Thomas Ballard, who was a coastguard for part of his life, and lived in Kent. His coastguard records give him as born in Portsea Hants 1794. The 1861 Census gives Thomas as being A 62 (B 1799) and the actual Census sheet clearly gives him as born in Portsea Hants. NB The transcribed sheets have an error, giving him as born in Herefordshire (I think). I can find no internet related cofirmation of his birth, other than the above, but have assumed (ie. yet to be proved), that as all the dates were right, he was a son of James and Ann Ballard, married in Portsea 1793. The current board, lists James and Ann as having 5 named children, but does not include Thomas. Can anyone help me on this. I have a query also with Ann, being, Ann Newton. In the 1861 Census she is living in Portsea with her daughter Charlotte. Her age is given as 84 (ie B 1777). The only record of Ann Newton I can find is Anne Newton - Born Portsea 1771. The name and the age of Ann Ballard in both the census and at Ann's death (1870) do not agree. Has anyone a confirmation that Ann Ballard was Ann Newton.

red mail Littlefield - Edwin Frank, Portsea
Littlefield - Edwin Frank, Portsea (May 06) I am trying to find out about my great grandfather, Edwin Frank Littlefield, b1882 in Portsea. His parents were Joseph and Jane/Sarah Jane. Their other children were Joseph 1877, Emily 1880, Ellen 1881 and Sarah 1885. He married my great grandmother, whose name I don't know, but I believe she may have been from Morecambe, and they had children Iris - my grandmother, Kathleen, Harry and Fred, and at some time they moved to Finchley. He left her and the children, and never came back. My grandmother later moved back to Morecambe and ran a boarding house with "Aunty Emmy", and that's about as much as I know. I would love to find out more about Edwin and his wife, his family, and what happened to him after he left, and also to find out the names of my great grandmother, and "Aunty Emmy". Please contact me if you have any information or family links. Many thanks, Jo
