John Oakley - (Pauntley - Gloucestershire)
John Oakley & Elizabeth Howels married at Pauntley in 1844. Two children were baptised there - Sarah Ann (1845) & Charles (1847) - and probably one - Maria (1849) - in Eldersfield which is where I believe Elizabeth came from. As far as I can tell both Charles and Elizabeth were buried at Eldersfield also in 1849. I don't know what happened to John or his surviving daughters. Maria turns up in Newent in 1861 with John's mother & stepfather (Margaret & John Hemmings or Immins) but that's all I've found. Neither of the girls are with John's parents or Elizabeth's in 1851. John Oakley was born about 1821 probably in either Pauntley or Newent and on his marriage was described as a labourer. Any help tracking down John and his daughters would be much appreciated

ELIZA REED (50) wife of ELIJAH appears on the 1871 as a widow.they had a large family ranging from Selina (21) to Mary Ann (5) at this time. this includes my Gt.Grandfather (JOHN)(20) In 1879 JOHN married ELIZA FOX (I have the certificate) and they also had a large family from the 1891 census from Annie Louisa (9) to Milson T (1) which includes my grandmother EMILY ADA (8). Nobody from these two families can be found on the GRO indexes and Gloucester record offic can find no trace of either JOHN or EMILY ADA. red mail ADOPTION MOTHER SURNAME EITHER SKIDMORE OR SMITH - (Sharpness - Gloucestershire)
My gran who is now dead, became pregnant by another man whilst my grandad was at war. Estimating the year it was either 1944 or 1945 she gave birth to a daughter. My grandad obviously made her give up the child and she was adopted. In 1946 my dad was born we know thatmy gran was pregnant whilst my grandad was in the 2nd World War. Unfortunately my dad died 3yrs ago aged 59 and he never met his sister, but he did tell me that he had found out through is brother that she was dead. It is very confusing but please keep reading! Anyway .... I was told that my 'aunty' who died had children and that I have cousins somewhere that I have never met and would like to be able to tell them about their gran. So here is it, detectives out there, I need help with this one, all I know is the rough year that being 1944 or 1945 it has to tie in with my gramps coming back from war and before my dad being born. I know that my gran would have to have been on the birth certificate but would she have used her maiden or married name. Her name was Amelia Penninah Smith (nee Skidmore), she lived in Sharpness and the nearest hospital was Berkeley. Surely there are records somewhere for me to start my search. I know that an uncle of mine who is dead now did manage to find his sister but never got to meet her because she died. Thank you, if you can help

Wager,Godwin,Biggs Twinning, family - (Sheepscombe - Gloucestershire)
My great grandfather George Godwin married Charlotte Twinning nee Wager the widow of Thomas Twinning on14Oct 1877 in Sheepscombe.George was previously married to Mary Hathaway who died in1875.On the census records it shows that Charlotte Wager was born in Santa Cruz East Indies and i have never been able to find out why.I know there are several Charlotte Wagers around this time in the area of Painswick and so this has made research quite difficult. She was the daughter of Thomas Wager a carpenter. He could have been in the Army which would possibly be why she was born in the East Indies. George had a daughter Rebecca who also lived in Sheepscombe and she was married to William Biggs. They lived next to the Butchers arms in 1901run by the family Halliday.George lived next to the Plough Inn where Cider with Rosie was written and in fact there is a connection within later family by marriage.Any details of the Wager /Godwin /Biggs family would be very greatfully received
