red mail Stephens Family From Newnet
Hi, I am looking for the father (and beyond) of my GGG Grandfather James Stephens who was a Thatcher. He was born in Newent around 1821. He married Mary Ann (who was born in Upleadon) in Newent in 1848. They had 8 known children: Emma (James' step daughter from Mary Ann's earlier marriage) b1843, Thomas b1848, Elizabeth b1850, Eliza b1855, Sarah b1858, Fanny b1861, John Charles b1865 (my GG Grandfather) and Ann/Annie b1868. We know the family moved from Newent to the Walworth area of London in the late 1860's as Ann was born there. Mary Ann is thought to have died shortly after Ann's birth as on the 1871 census James in stated as a 'widow' and the children are housed in separate accomodations. James' proffession from then on is a Carman, which John Charles later became. I would appreciate it if anyone had any info on the parents of James, or further back. Also if there are any relations or decendants out there who know of James' children and their families who would like to make contact. Thanks.
