red mail Rowland and Hall
I am trying to break down a massive brick wall in my quest to find information on my GGG grandmother Eleanor HALL. She emigrated to Sydney, Australia in 1850, under the surname ROWLAND, with her 13 yr old son Albert. On the shipping papers Albert is noted as born in Gloucester (1837), Eleanor as born in Mauritius (abt.1819). Albert's father is noted as Edward, but I can find no trace of a marriage for Edward and Eleanor. It looks like Eleanor's father was George HALL. Major Gage John HALL was Acting Governor of Mauritius at the time of Eleanor's birth, so maybe he is her father? I've found information on the Major's military career, but am at a loss when it comes to searching BDM info in Mauritius! Does anyone know of the HALLs in Mauritius, or where I can go to search? I am further hampered by Eleanor's apparent disapearance in Australia - no death record can be found. Any help is greatly appreciated.

red mail Wells, knott, simms Old Photos
My Aunt died around two years ago at Hucclecote (Gloucester)and we picked up some of her personal effects from a local solicitor. We went through some of them only recently. Amongst them was a box of old photos. They have no connection with our family and assumedly belonged to someone who died around the same time in the same area. The names on the photographs are largely Wells, Knott and Simms. The locations are Gloucester, Belfast, Richmond, Warrington, Sale and Epsom. There are several photos of family members in the RN. If anyone can help me put these family memories into the right hands I would be very much obliged. If they would contact me, preferably with some Christian names to cross-refer, then I can supply more detailed information. 7/9/02
