red mail elmcote farm, coaley and the fryer family
hello, does anyone have any info on elmcote farm, coaley around 1870 on ? My gt gt grandmother Harriet b 1855 and her husband charles fryer ived in coaley st and silver st from 1870's on.when she was single, harriet townsend she had a son frank george in 1875. she then married charles fryer moved to wales and had 5 more children by him. I don't know if charles is franks father or not but he was raised as a fryer hence my grandmothers maiden name.Elmcote was mentioned quite often in family conversations about glos so I would like to know more about it, also farm labouring was the family occupation so I wondered if it was this farm that they all worked at.I am also keen on finding out more about the townsend family. Harriets father was george townsend and her mother was eliza nee riddle b1829/30. they also had edward a seaman, thomas, sarah and charles. The family are on the 1861 census for glos, gives thornbury as birthplace for children. any info however small would be greatly appreciated, perhaps a few threads here and there could help me weave a story, let's hope. thank you.
red mail Phillimore - Coaley
I am a direct descendent of John Phillimore who was born in Coaley probably between 1816 and 1820. John was an agricultural worker and I know what happened to him after his marriage to Hannah Bennett in 1839 at Kings Stanley church. What I am having difficulty with is his origin. On his marriage certificate his father's name is given as George Phillimore but I can only find Georges from Slimbridge and there are two possibles. I would be grateful for anyone who has information on John to let me know. I think what must have happened is that he went to work in Kings Stanley at a fairly early age and so is missing from Coaley records.
