John TUDOR - Licenced Victualler - (Cwmdu - Glamorgan)
Looking for information on, and descendants of, John TEWDOR, later TUDOR, who was baptised at Roch in Pembrokeshire on 18th November 1838. In the 1861 census he appears to be listed as a police officer lodging at 45 Grove Street, Llangynwyd Higher in Margam. He probably married a Sarah HUTCHINSON, born in Maesteg c1836, in the Bridgend registration district in the Dec 1875 quarter and produced at least 2 children: Walwyn F TUDOR (1878) and Irene Jane TUDOR (1880). In 1881 and 1891 he appears as a Licenced Victualler at 75 Commercial St, Cwmdu. I believe John died in the December 1891 quarter aged 53, and in 1901 his widow Sarah is listed in the census as a Temperance Hotel Keeper, at which time Walwyn was still living at home. Sarah probably died in the Mar 1910 quarter at the age of 73. Does anyone recognise any of the above, please?

red mail Evacuees from Maidstone. - (Dinas Powis - Glamorgan)
No entries for Dinas Powis? Let me start you off. First a big thank you for looking after us 'evacuees' during WW2. Some of you older residents will probable remember the kids from Maidstone,Kent;who were only with you for about four months in 1944 during the 'doodlebug' time. I stayed with another evacuee Donald Waller, we boarded with Mr & Mrs Nichol, who were English - he worked at a secret establishment in Cardiff. They had a bungalow in Cross Common Road, on top of the hill, next to a farm. The farmer's family; whose name I am sorry to say I cannot remember, was quite large - three of their children were our age - two girls and a boy about 10-12 years. We all played together and got on very well. What a fascinating time, had the cane at school, you did not need gloves for a few hours after, but it was thoroughly deserved. Taught by Mr Williams the Headmaster to sing with much gusto 'Land of My Fathers' in Welsh, I remember Mr Williams name - surprising what warm hands can do. Collected eggs in a crock from an old couple in the bungalow opposite, their name evades me. What weather - it seemed to rain for the whole four months. Enjoyed walking to the local coast and crossing to Sully Island when the tide was out. In addition, train trips to Barry Island were an exciting excursion for eleven-year-old kids. Although homesick at times - I can say I enjoyed my short time in Dinas Powis - thank you all.

red mail John family - (Llangiwg, Llanguicke, Llan-giwg, Craig Llangiwg - Glamorgan)
Hi, I'm trying to trace any family related or linked to my great-grandmother, Blodwen John. Blodwen was born in Pontarddulais in 1892. Her parents are Thomas Benjamin John (b abt 1865 in Llangiwg) and Miriam Hughes (b abt 1868 in Llangyfelach). Blodwen had 7 siblings: Elizabeth (b abt 1890 in Rhyndwyclydach), Thomas B (b abt 1891 in Llanguick), James/Jim (b abt 1894 born in ?), William (b 1896 in Swansea), Sarah (b abt 1900), May (b abt 1903) and Danny (b abt 1904). The last 3 children were born in South Africa. We think Miriam's parents were Joseph and Eliza Hughes, and that she had 7 siblings: William, Margaret, James, Joseph, John, Susannah and Mary. Unfortunately we don't have much information regarding Thomas Benjamin John, escept that he possibly lived with his grandparents, John and Sarah Griffiths in Craig Y Merched in 1871 and then with his Uncle Owen and Aunt Maria Jones/John in Llanguick in 1881. I would appreciate any help or information. Many thanks, Sue

red mail Edward, Ebenezer, John, and Evan GIBBON - (Llanharan - Glamorgan)
Looking for anyone who are descended from these GIBBON family members: Ebenezer b. <1822>, Evan b. <1826>, Edward b. <1831>, John b. <1834>, Jacob b. <1820>, Rebecca b. <1837>, and Sarah b. <1841>. I think they may have all been born in Llanharan, Glamorgan, Wales.Their parents were Edward b. <1798> and Rebecca (JENKIN)b GIBBON. Edward was b, <1791-1799> and Rebecca was b. <1800>. Supposedly, Edward's parents were Evan and Jane (HUMPHREYS) GIBBON, who had another son that I know of , named Evan. I don't know any other children of Evan and Jane. Their grandson was named Windsor Humphreys GIBBON though. These families went on to live in other areas around Llantrisant, Peterstone, Aberystruth, around Maesteg, Barry, and Cardiff, Llanwanno, Wenvoe, Dinas, to name a few. My GIBBON family left in the late 1860's and went to Pennsylvania, USA. They were coal miners there, or shoemakers. They finally settled in the Beaver Meadow, Carbon Co., and Coleraine (now Junedale) and Hazleton in Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania, USA. I have been looking for anyone connected with especially with Edward and Rebecca GIBBON, and his son Edward, b. 1831, who married Rebecca MATTHEW (born around Red Hill - near Laleston). Another son of Edward, Sr. and Rebecca (JENKIN) was Ebenezer GIBBON, b. abt. 1822 in Llanharan. Think he married Mary, and had several children. Someone has mentioned he married Sarah JENKINS, but don't ever see her name on the censuses with him. Could be that she had his first two sons and died right before the 1881 census was taken, in which Ebenezer is married to a Mary, b. <1828>.
