My mother's name is Rose Sottolano and she was stationed there with her father. We have heard a lot of stories about (Taffy) and we would like to get in touch with him and see how he is doing. Looking for Peter Hall, probably born in Georgia, USA, and adopted there by Griffith Jenkin Hall and Catherine (Conboy) Hall. His birth date is unknown except that he appeared to be under 10 years on the 1891 Census of Swansea, but it can't be easily read on the original. His brothers were 28 and 20 years old - so perhaps he wasn't that young! Or was he perhaps the son of one of the older boys? There is one possible marriage, to Eliizabeth Mary Rees, in 1897 (which would of course make him older than we thought! We would appreciate any clues! Janice

George Lewis born Swansea c.1811 married 'Mary' and moved to Birmingham where their first child William was born c.1831. 1861 census records George 'born Swansea, Wales' and his son's marriage certificate shows him to be a blacksmith by trade. George and Mary seemed to have had more children after William: John (c.1837), George (c.1839), Emma or Emily (c.1842), Sarah (c.1846) and Mary (c.1849). John Stephens father was Peter McIntyre (ships carpenter) who was already deceased in 1876 when JS married Ellen.( her father was David Lewis b1815 Llandeilo (Policeman) and mother Mary b 1815)I would love to find out anything about Peter McIntyre, where he came from etc. as I have drawn a blank. Liverpool has been mentioned for where JS was born.????

Richard NEWMAN and many of his sons and grandsons were master mariners and travelled across the world, some settling in Australia, Mauritius. When he retired from the sea he established a Naval & Commercial Academy in Swansea, Wales in 1837 until his death in 1849. His wife Phyllis PHILLIPS was born at St Marys, Isles of Scilly and they married there but there is no record that her husband did. Locations in Swansea were South Prospect St, Goat St (now Princess Way?), Belle Vue St. His advertisements in The Cambrian state that he had served in the Royal Navy and the East India Company.
