red mail Gregory, Llandeilo Talybont
I am researching my husband's family and have traced the Gregory family to John Gregory (d 1824) who was a tenant farmer. His sons were Richard (1788), Christopher (1791), John (1794) and Henry (1804) and a daughter Elizabeth (1796). The family appeared to leave the farms in the 1860s. Our line is John, John, Daniel, Daniel. If anyone has links with this family I would be interested in sharing our research.
red mail Evans from Llanedy, Llandeilotalybont to Pontardulais and Woods Pontardulais
I would like to trace my Grandfather's, Gwilym Thomas Evans, siblings. He emigrated to Australia at abt.20 years, moved around a lot and did not keep in touch with his family. I am entirely stuck on GT's elder brother,David Evans, born last half of 1882 to 1883 at Llanedy, Carmarthenshire and possibly moving with the family to either West Glamorgan, Merthyr Tydvil or the Pontardulais area in Wales. He was not on the 1901 census with his father, his father's new partner Harriet, (no marriage found), and siblings. His father was William Evans b 1856 Llanelly and his mother was Ann Rowlands born 1852, (a descendant, in Llangeitho, of Daniel Rowlands a famous preacher who died in 1790). That might ring a bell with an Evans descendant. William Evans was with Harriet ? in 1901, and again in 1911, Ann Rowlands having died in 1900. GT's sister Agnes Evans abt 1886, married Rees Walters from Llangammach and they had William Edward Walters born in 1909 and who died in 1996, and his sister Morfydd Mary Evans married David Enoch Evans f rom Tregarron, Cardiganshire. The latter couple had at least two daughters, Margaret E Evans born in 1922 and Ann(e) Evans who married Gordon Bennett. I believe that they ran a hotel in London and the name Eunice was frequently mentioned in visits. Gordon's sister Vera Bennett lived near my parents at Leigh on Sea, Essex. Margaret E Evans married James Garnet Woods and had two sons. I believe that they were James L Woods b. 1947 and Anthony C Woods 1945 though I remember the name Christopher Woods and that Margaret was known as Peggy. I have a letter written to my father from Peggy and Jim at Williams Street, Pontardulais. I have no idea what happened to GT's other sister, Mary Ann Evans -the eldest sister born abt.1885. I would be delighted and grateful if anyone were able to find any records for David Evans or the others of his family, as contact was only made with the family in 1962 by my father writing blindly to a vicar in Wales! Not much of what my father found out was passed on to me, but I remember meeting Morphydd once and seeing Ann and Gordon a few times. A difficult surname with such common Christian names. Thank you.
red mail Evans to Evans nee Rowlands.
At last I have traced David Enoch Evans 1889, born Llangammarch through my great Aunt Morfydd whom he married. Morfydd Mary Evans was born 1893 to William Evans 1856 and Ann Rowlands, and married David in 1919. David's father was Evan Caronian Evans born 1850, from Llangmmarch too. They had two daughters that I know of - Ann Evans who married Gordon Bennett with sister Vera, and Margaret Evans (assume this to be name as she was known as Peggy) who married James Garnet Woods and had boys known as, I believe, Christopher Woods and Geoffrey Woods. Eunice was always mentioned by Ann and may have been a sister of hers. Ann and Gordon ran a hotel in London, I believe, though Gordon sounded Welsh too. I would love to make contact with the descendants of any of these as Morfydd Mary Evans born 1893, was my Grandfather's sister, whom I met once. Thank you for reading this.
red mail Walters to Evans in Pontardulais
I am principally interested in an Evans family living in Pontarduais in 1911. William Evans married Ann Rowlands and had a number of children of whom Agnes Evans born 1886 in Llanedy, Hendy area, was one. She married Rees Walters born Llangammarch in 1883 and they had William Edward Walters born in Goppa Row, Pondardulais, on 13 Jun 1909, who died May 1996 registration district Swansea. I would like to trace the descendants of William Edwards Walters (Willie Ed) and to try to find some information about his Aunts and Uncles. Gwilym Thomas, born 1890, was Agnes's brother and he emigrated to Australia and lost contact with his siblings though family known now.
red mail Sarah and Tom
My great aunt Sarah ? nee Law was married to Tom ? and they lived in a farm on the estuary near the old church. Any details on the farm or the surname of my relative welcome. They were living in the farm in the late 1950s -60s.
red mail Warner
I would love to know what became of my grandfather William James Warner. He gave his age as 40 on his marriage certificate in 1913 .He was a labourer in a chemical works at that time. I was told that he became a ratcatcher and died when falling in a river but I have found nothing to back up these stories.
red mail Williams
On my grandparents marriage certificate in 1913 my grandmother Elizabeth's father is named as joseph Williams labourer of Bolgoed St. The marriage is witnessed by a S. Williams. Any info appreciated.
