red mail John Mannion
Looking for more information on John Mannion who married Bridget Howard at Athenry 1868. Believed to be previous marriages for John- to Katherine Hinds or Kennedy in 1850 and Margaret Mogan in 1859. Also any information on Bridget's parents.
Thomas Sullivan
I'm tracing my great-grandfather Thomas (Patrick?) Sullivan (TS). He was born in 1818 in Co. Galway. I'm not aware of any family in the area, and he was no longer resident in the area after 1840. He joined the Irish Constabulary in 1840 and was posted to Roscommon, and in 1843 to Dublin and then Co. Down, where he married an Eliza Ann Gilmore of Co. Down, who may have had a sister called Margaret. He was posted to Co. Meath on promotion in 1868, retired in 1875 to Co. Down, and died in 1894. His son Patrick Joseph trained as a doctor 1871-75 at the Galway college of Queen's University. I'm posting this under Athenry because a Thomas Sullivan appears in Griffith's rating valuation (1857) in the barony of Dunkellin, the parish of Athenry and the townland of Mountain West; descendants of that TS are still alive in Galway city and in Dublin, and I am keen to know if there is a connection between him and my own TS.
Carroll or Sullivan of Loobroe
My great grandmother, Maggie Carroll, came to New York about 1874 and married in 1875. She identified her place of birth as "Alabra" in her marriage record (kept by a French-speaking priest in New York). One of her sons recorded her place of birth as "Irish Free State" and another as "Ireland - north" -- from which I deduce Connaught. The closest phonetic match I found in the Placenames Database is An Lúb Rua (Loobroe in English) county Galway (Gaillimh); barony and civil parish Athenry (Baile Átha an Rí). A photo I believe is of her was taken in Cork, but perhaps a girl from Galway would have gone to Cork for a photograph. Her parents were Patrick Carroll and Margaret Sullivan.
