We can trace our Holgate ancestors from Rev George Holgate who was the curate of Standford Rivers parish, near Navestock, Essex. He died in 1803.He was married to Ann Salisbury, we think. His surviving brothers John Wyndham, William, and sisters Laura, Isabella and Georgianna remained in England that we know of. We would love to know more about the 16-1700's and any connection to brothers Robert(Archbishop of York), Henry and John, Sons of Thomas and Elizabeth Chapernowe (1481+) as these Christian names are still in evidence in the family as well as pictures and seals that suggest a connection. red mail Annie Gibson - (Parkeston - Essex)
I am trying to find out the maiden name of my great grandmother, Annie Gibson. On the 1911 census she lived at Victoria Terrace, Parkeston along with her four children. The eldest child is my grandmother Maud, born 26.5.1893 according to my father. He said she was born in Maldon but the census says Stratford, Essex. Maud later married my grandfather William Brett who was from Ipswich and they lived in Parkeston the rest of their lives. All I know about Annie is what appears on the census - she was born around 1871 in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Her husband, my great grandfather, was Frederick John M Gibson. He was born in Surrey in 1866 but spent most of his life in Essex and died in 1907, lost at sea in a storm - he was a seaman on the SS Berlin. I have been unable to find a record of their marriage or of Maud's birth so can't get Annie's maiden name from there. I've searched Free BMD over and over again and have also sent the details of Maud's birth to the Registry Office to get a birth certificate but they were unable to help me. I've found Frederick in every census except 1891 which must be around the time he met Annie. Sue
