I believe my Great Grandmother Eliza Flack was from Abridge. She married John Blair in 1905 and had a daughter Jessie Louisa Blair in 1905 and they lived at 10 Henside Wood, Chigwell/ Woodford Bridge. Her marriage certificate shows her residence as Silver street, Abridge but I cannot find her in 1901 census (several Elizas but not of the right age according to her birth certificate. Her marriage certificate shows Richard Flack (drain pipe maker) as her father. I know from my mother that her mum lived in Adbridge and apparently dieid following a fall down the stone stairs and broke her hip when she was 90+ years old and they could not fix it. Her husband John died during the 1930's and she went on to marry Jack Hopper. Can anyone help with information on the family?

Susan married William DRAKE in 1822 in St Mary's Chigwell but William also was born in the Roothings (White Roothing) and they lived in Romford /Dagenham after marriage. By 1840 WIlliam was miller at Mark's Gate Mill.

Matthew Woodley, a farmer and maltster, inherited the cottages at Bentfield End, Stansted Mountfitchet, including Bentfield Bower, from his father Matthew. He owned them up until his death in 1858. His brother, John Woodley, and brother-in-law, Henry Burrows, then disposed of lands by sale to John's son Matthew Fuller Woodley who is living there in the 1861 census. The surrounding lands were owned in 1847 by Robert Gosling, a future relative by marriage, as Matthew Fuller Woodleys daughter Winifred Mary marries Francis William Gosling about 1890. Matthew Woodley senior had many children: William, Mary, Matthew, John, Catherine, Sarah, Thomas, Eliza and Letitia. They married into the associated names.

During the 1950s Robert became gravely ill and whilst in hospital his family were befriended by another Bicknacre family. She later married Edward John Arnull often switched around to John Edward Arnull. he died in the early 1900's and after his death Sarah went to work as a housemaid. Their two children William Thomas and Edward john, he too was called John , these children were put into Dr Bernardo's home and transported to Canada in 1902 Edward John died in 1910 after a presumed rail accident. William has now many descendents living in Canada. He married Edith Mutimur in England where he served with the Canadian Military.

Greetings from a curious fox downunder. My late father in law was born in one of the Blue Houses near St Mary's church in Chadwell St Mary in 1886. He later moved next door to one of the West's cottages and was in residence on the census of 1891. Can anyone tell me if these cottages were owned by the church and rented out to the poor? I suspected, as he was a horseman that he was a Ranger in Epping Forest but this is just a guess.
