Dansey and (past) Wanstead street names
Having searched every page of the 1861 census I am still unable to find the Dansey family that moved there around 1856. It was probably around Cann Hall. From another side of the family: In Mayfield Road, there were a number of cottages and a terrace listed in the 1901 census but the wording is unclear, does anyone know what the Terrace was called?
red mail Wood/Gates family
I have traced my family back to my gt gt gt grandparents George Wood b 1818 Wanstead, Essex and Sarah Gates b 1817 Ongar, Essex who married in 1837 and had at least 9 children (probably more). I have traced the family on the 1861 census but can't find them in 1851 or 1841. The first child I have a record of is William b1844 High Ongar, Essex followed by George b1848, Charles b1849, Richard b1851, Hannah b1852, Henry b1854, John b1856 Maryanne b1858 and Julia b1859 (all in Wanstead, Essex) but I believe there were probably children prior to them. Son George was the father of my gt grandmother. It would be great if I could get a bit further back with these branches. If anyone has any information on either of these families I would love to hear from you.

red mail Smith, Wanstead
Great-grandfather, Thomas Smith was born in Wanstead in 1841. His sister, Elizabeth was born there in 1827 and married a printer, Alfred Eyre who was father to the celebrated organist, Alfred Eyre born 1854. Thomas was a wine Cooper and he travelled to Budapest in 1868/9. He married Matilda Brooks of Gloucester and they had six children, Frederick, Matilda Emily ( our Grandmother ), Sydney, Henry, Walter and George. The family lived in Kennington but the four boys were placed in the workhouse in 1880's when their mother disappeared from the scene. Thomas's mother was also called Elizabeth, born 1811 in Wanstead and she had a sister, Sarah, a nurse born in 1807 also in Wanstead. Matilda Emily married Albert Smith in 1872 and lived in Kennington. We would like to know about Thomas's father or about the Wanstead connection.
