I believe this lady was born in the village about 1805. She was obviously educated ( I have a copy of her handwriting from a family bible) but I cannot find out anything else about her. John FROST bapt. 11 Oct. 1798 at Stoke by Clare married 3 May 1826 at Haverhill to Mary Ann KING who had been bapt. at West Wratting 28 July 1805. They lived at "Peterhouse" and "Yew Tree" Farms, Steeple Bumpstead through the 1830s until in 1844 they emigrated to South Australia with 9 childrem , most of whom had been bapt. at Steeple Bumpstead. They travelled on the "Taglioni" as cabin passengers. Mary Ann was pregnant during the voyage and had her last child soon after arrival in Adelaide. I would very much like a photo of "Peterhouse" or "Yew Tree" farms. Mary Ann's sister, Hannah KING was married to the Rev. John HOUGHTON M.A. at Steeple Bumnpstead in 1834.
red mail Ager - 18th Century
Trying to trace my Ager ancestors of Steeple Bumpstead. John Ager was baptised in Steeple Bumpstead, Essex in c 1778. He was my 3x great grandfather who I believe was born in nearby Radwinter. I have a copy of his baptismal record, obtained by my late father in 1949. Either by mistake or deliberate change, the surname was, somewhere during his lifetime, changed to Auger, in my line. I have found a John ‘Acker’, living in Radwinter at the time of the 1841 census, who may have been my 3x great grandfather’s father. He was registered as a widower aged 80 – 84. Have you come across ‘Acker’ as being a variant of Ager, also the surnames of Hager or Hagar? Any information you have would be much appreciated.
