red mail Gladys Young
My father, Edward Young re-married after my Mother's death in the late 1960's. He married Gladys and they lived in Southend Road, Rochford, Essex, ( I believe number 65 or 69, but not sure) which was the property my Father and Mother owned during their time together. My Father died in the late 1970's, and I would like any information as to what happened to the bungalow in Southend Road that Gladys would have continued to live in after his death, assuming that she has now passed on - or perhaps she moved to another property soon after his passing. Any information about Gladys Young would be most appreciated.

red mail Stock. Butcher. 1870?
My husband's grandmother was called Kate Stock and was the daughter of a Butcher who had a shop in the Square or Market Square. They had a servant and he employed three people. I can find nothing about Kate Stock pre her being 18yrs old, apart from the entry telling me above. Anyone know where I might find baptisms, father's marriage etc? Was Rochford a small place then? Is it now? Or is it now RoMford? Any help appreciated. I have now established just about all I need on the Stock's of Rochford but would be interested to know if there are any descendants still in the area of the family of Kate Stock. Born 1873. Sister Fannie. Stayed single. Born 1871. Father William and mother could be Annie or Amelia?? I know Amelia Barnes married into the family sometime before and there is a window in the church relating to them. Can any relations of hers perhaps contact me if they still exist.

red mail William Samuel Griffin
According to the 1861 Census, William was born in Hackney in 1784. He married Eleanor Sarah Berry in 1806 and some of his sons were born in London before he moved to Stambridge where he remarried to Ann Bracknell in 1842 and became Manager of the Little Stambridge Brewery. I would like to learn more about his descendants.
if you have CAREY in your family and possibly Rochford in Essex then i recommend you read the Phillipa Gregory Book the Other Boleyn Girl. I found it a wonderful inspiring thought provoking history (though fictional) of Mary BOLEYN and her marriage to William CAREY - Her children became Henry, baron HUNDSDON and her daughter Catherine married Sir Francis KNOLLY. mary CAREY nee BOLEYN later married William STAFFORD who was a younger son and she retired to Rochford in Essex. By keeping a low profile she kept her head while her sister Anne BOLEYN and her brother George BOLEYN did not in the Court of King Henry eighth. The book may be fiction but it will certainly make you want to read some history books because it is based on history. The names of the people above all did exist

Robinson and Brand of Essex
My great, great Grandfather Joshua James Robinson (aged 38 born Southminster) was living in Rochford at the time of the 1881 Census. He lived at Cottage Place with wife Ann (37, Barling, maiden name unknown) and children Laura (14, Foulness), Joshua(12, Rochford, my great Grandfather), Lavinia (10, Rochford) and Alice (8, Rochford). I know that 11 years later Lavinia was a witness at Joshuaƕs wedding to Emma Eliza Kemp in Springfield. Joshua senior however was not born a Robinson (if born in wedlock) his mothers name was Ann Maria Robinson but his birth certificate names Joshua Brand (1818) as the father (I have traced his line to his father also Joshua married (1810) to Mary (maybe Challis or Chalis)). Later came a sister christened AnnMaria (1846) after her mother but with the name Brand. I would love to know the history of the Aunt, Ann Maria and her three nieces Laura, Lavinia and Alice and going back in time the Brand or Robinson family line. Any small clues will be tenderly nurtured.

He married a FANNY (FRANCES) SEWELL in Prittlewell in 1820 (she may have come from Rettendon). There is a Removal notice from Maldon back to Prittlewell for 1831 and two Removal notices from the parish of Chelmsford back to Prittlewell for 1837 and 1838
Shopland Family
Between Southend and Rochford was the parish of Shopland. It is now incorporated with Sutton and is known as Sutton & Shopland. There was a parish church named St. Mary's but this has been demolished and only a graveyard remains. The Shopland family is beleived to have originated from the ancient parish of Shopland and any information would be welcome.
