red mail Caroline Elizabeth Bigsworth
Caroline, my 3xgreat grandmother, was born in Leyton Workhouse on 25 DEC 1820 and baptised there 21 JAN 1821. Her mother, Ann, was in again in 1822 and had a stillborn child. In 1825, Ann was convicted of Larceny and sentenced to 5 weeks in prison. Caroline was in the workhouse again in 1832 and 1835. By 1841, Caroline is in City Garden Place, St Luke, London. She has with her a child, Selina Just. Selina was born on 03 SEP 1840 at 5 City Garden Place. Her parents are named as Charles Just, Nautical Instrument Maker, and Louisa Just, nee Burrell. In 1842 a child, Caroline Elizabeth Just, born 03 SEP 1840, is baptised . Her parents are named as Charles Just and Caroline Bigsworth. Has Caroline adopted Selina and changed her name, or was she using an alias, Louisa Just, nee Burrell, when the birth was registered? Burrell was the name of the nurse who cared for her when her mother was pregnant in the workhouse. another child is baptised with Charles Just and Caroline Bigsworth as parents, but he dies soon afterwards. Caroline Bigsworth marries Thomas Harding in 1845. In 1851, they have with them a son, George Thomas, and a daughter, Caroline. So little Selina Just has now become Caroline Harding. What happened to her next? And what happened to her mother, Ann, after her prison stay in 1825?
