red mail James Shaw - Spennymoor
I am looking for information about my great-great grandfather, James (possibly second name Edward) Shaw, probably born in or near Spennymoor around 1859. A coalminer, he married Mary Ann Jeffries in 1884; he was a 26 year old widower at the time. His father's first name was John and he possibly had a brother named Robert. His children were Grace, Joseph, James, Richard, Edward, and Mary Shaw. He moved the family to the US (where I think Joseph and James were born) in the late 1880's, but he would not renounce the King, so he took the family back to England, where he died in 1911. My great-grandmother Mary Ann returned the family to the US after he died. Looking at census records, I find a John and Dorothy Shaw who may have been his parents. Any information about John and Dorothy, or anyone else in the family, the family would be appreciated.

red mail Tate, McGregor, Motherdale
Adam Tate (my great great great grandfather) married Margaret Patrick in the September Quarter 1845 Newcastle on Thyne District. I think this is in Durham as their children Adam (b. 11 May 1855), Ann (b. 6 June 1853) and Isabel (b. 1857) are all born in Tow Low, Durham. The son Adam migrated to Australia, apparently on his own when he was 23 on the Earl Derby 20 June 1879. He subsequently married Mary A McGregor who had migrated with her family on the Scottish Admiral 30 Oct 1878. Mary A was born 20 Sep 1859 in Darlington, Durham, England and I am looking for her siblings who must have died very young as there are 8 deceased children on her Father's death certificate and we only know of one child, Elizabeth, who died here in Australia. Mary A's parents Thomas Oscar McGregor and Jane Mothersdale(Mothersdill/dell/Mathersdill) were married in Darlington Parish in 1857. I could keep going...because this is the part we are struggling with ... the finding of Jane Mothersdale/Mathersdill parents William and Sarah.
