red mail LISTER family at Willington, Co. Durham.
I am trying to research more about a Sarah LISTER, nee COATES who married a John LISTER on 28th May 1849 at Richmond, Yorkshire. Sarah was possibly born at Skelton, Yorkshire in 1828 and had at least 2 sisters - a Mary COATES and a Jane COATES. Their parents are thought to be John and Elizabeth COATES (nee Stainbank). In 1851 Sarah and John ('Jackie') LISTER were working as schoolmaster and schoolmistress at a school in Willington, Co. Durham. By the time of the 1861 Census they have moved to Tudhoe, Co. Durham and Sarah's husband is described as a 'schoolmaster and collector of rates' and they have 3 or 4 children. My family ancestors - TAYLOR family of Whitworth, Spennymoor and Ferryhill thought highly of these two people and family rumour had it that John LISTER was instrumental in providing a village school somewhere in the locality. Possibly at Willington or Tudhoe, or Spennymoor or their surrounding areas. I have been trying to find out if there is a family link between Sarah LISTER and my maternal grandmother, Bertha Annie COATES (birth registered as Bertha A Mullen with father John Mullin and mother Mary Ann on the parish record) who was born in 1879 and whose father was shown as William COATES on her marriage certificate. John LISTER was born 1818/19 and died 8th Aug. 1877 at Edinburgh having had an operation. His wife Sarah was still shown on the 1881 Census as living at Tudhoe, a widow. I would be glad to hear from anyone with extra information relating to these LISTERS, their ancestors and their descendants. Thankyou.

red mail Kasher, Casher
John Casher m Elizabeth (nee Archer)in 1855. 1st child James born & died (within hours) 1856. Second child Jane born 20.04.57 and thereafter recorded change of surname from Casher to Kasher. 7 more chldren John/Mary 186?/Robert 1863/Elizabeth Oct 1865/Joseph 26.12.67/Tommy 186?/Richard 1873-1947. Richard m Sarah Robinson** and they had 10 children: Joseph*** 1894-1991/Thomas/Elizabeth 1899/James/Isabella 1900/Tony/Fred/Albert/Mary/Walter. Can't trace the Casher name further back - new to genealogy. The Casher family may have come from Southern Ireland, perhaps Kilkenny and thereabouts-unconfirmed data. I am asking for help to find the Casher/Kasher family before 1855 and establish why the change of name and any info for later years will fill in many gaps in the tree. Joe Kasher*** (see above)went to school in Willington, played football for Crook Town and then Sunderland then became a publican. Any leads on Sarah Robinson** would be most welcome. Richard Kasher & Sarah Robinson (then resident in Willington) are GtGrandparents of the parental family tree being compiled. Further note: believe Elizabeth Archer possibly related to Freddie Archer, famous jockey - family rumour.
