red mail Garrey, Byerley Family
Hi guys.....has anyone any information on the above families. In particular, Margaret Garrey DOB unknown, born Tudhoe, married Thomas Hall on the 2nd October 1809 Chester Le Street Durham. The surname Byerley features in the mid 1700's around Lanchester and around 1500 plus also in Tudhoe. Someone may point me in the right direction. Regards / Grahame
red mail Pinkney
My g g grandfather Robert Pinkney c1826 is on the 1881 census as born in Tudhoe. He was married in 1850 to Jane Telford and his father is on the marriage certificate as John, occupation miner. I can find no baptism records for him and wonder if all the church records for the area have been transcribed as yet. Any info most greatly appreciated
red mail Fitzpatrick or Sennett
My gg grandfather was an Irish-born stonemason Thomas Fitzpatrick. He and his wife Frances (nee RANSON from Seaham) were born around 1852 and married in Tudhoe Village (St Charles RC) in 1881. The Fitzpatrick family lived (at time of 1901 census) at Tudhoe Mill - bottom end of the Village, nearest the River. They had many children, including: Lizzie, who married James Sennett (a miner) in 1913; a son Thomas/Tot was in the DLI and married Annie CAMPBELL; another son William/Bill married Dorothy RITSON. Grateful for any information.
red mail Cheane or Chein, Bennett, Charlton
I am looking for anybody that is related to my Grandmother. the 1881 census shows that my greatgrandmother Martha Cheane lived at James St Tudhoe. She had six children at that time.Francis B.coal miner born 1861,Thomas, mattress maker born 1865, Annie scholar, born 1868 ( my grandmother who married Frank Charlton in 1889), Emily scholar born 1871, Jessie scholar born 1875, James scholar born 1876. It starts to get a bit complicated from here as I understand Martha remarried to a Bennett indeed the census shows that she had a lodger at this time whose name was Jesse Bennett. Also Francis married in 1882 in Sunderland but his name appear as Francis Sanderson Chein Bennett. Any information would be appreciated.

red mail WATSON
Watson family, parents Peter and Caroline, schoolteachers, were at Tudhoe about 1874 where daughter Caroline was born. Has anyone noted them there? See also entries for Low Worsall and Egglescliffe. Family had been in India until 1870s
Francis married Ellen (Eleanor) Graham in 1863 and probably settled in Tudhoe shortly after. They had at least four children: William, Mary Jane, Joseph and Elizabeth Slater. William probably died in 1890 and his widow was still there in 1901 at 228 Tudhoe Colliery. Can anyone add to the story? Terry
