red mail CHAPMAN
Can anybody tell me about the family of Edward Chapman who was born in Hart, Durham in 1785 and came to work at the Trimdon Colliery. His parents were John Chapman and Margaret Elliott. He married Isabella Gowland who was born in Trimdon in about 1796. I don't know who were the parents of Isabella Gowland.

red mail MUTTEN,WATSON
7. Mary Ann MUTTEN (Robert-1) born about 1868 in Egton, Yorkshire. In UK Census 1871 she is shown at 2 New Row, Beck Hole, Goathland. No occupation is recorded. In UK Census 1881 she is shown at 216 Cookes Terrace, Trimdon Grange Colliery, Sedgefield. Her occupation is recorded as Scholar. In 1891 UK Census she is shown at 114 Cook’s Terrace, Trimdon Grange Colliery, Sedgefield, South East Durham. Her occupation is given as Domestic Servant. In UK Census 1901 she is shown at 8 Blast Row, Washington, County Durham. Mary Ann MUTTEN and John George WATSON were married in June Quarter 1893 District of Stockton County Durham, North Riding of Yorkshire. Mary Ann MUTTEN and John George WATSON had the following children: 12. i.) Maud WATSON born about 1895 in Trimdon Grange, County Durham 13. ii.) Robert WATSON born about 1897 in Trimdon Grange, county Durham Note: 1. In 1901 UK Census the birthplace of Mary Ann WATSON has been transcribed as ‘Hexham, Yorkshire’, the original sheet is inscribed ‘Yorks. He(letter indeterminate) ton’. I am satistfied this is a transcription of ‘Egton’ pronounced with an aspirated ‘H’ that is ‘Hegton’. In UK Census for 1891 hi is shown as a lodger in 21 North Plantation Grove, Trimdon Grange, Trimdon, Sedgefield. His occupation is recorded as Coal Miner. Earlier than 1891 I have not found any 1865 Trimdon born ‘John George’ or ‘John G’ WATSON except for one born at Stanhope, County Durham. I have found two entries for ‘John WATSON’ both born 1865 at Trimdon. My guess is that Mary Ann’s Husband was the son of Robert and Hannah WATSON shown in UK Census 1881 in 40 Cooper’s Terrace., Thornley, Durham (John’s occupation is recorded as Coal Miner) and in 1871 UK Census shown in (?) Foundry, Wingate, Durham. Mary Ann and John George Watson’s son is ‘Robert’.
