red mail McQuade/McQuaide family 1864-1885
I have a Francis McQuade and his wife Bridget Sands both born in Ireland who were living in Jarrow between 1864 and 1886. Their children, Thomas b1864, Sarah Jane b1868, Francis b1870, Joseph b1873 and Patrick b1876 were all born in Jarrow. I don't know how long they lived in Jarrow before Thomas was born but I can't find them on the 1861 census. Did they come directly from Ireland or via Scotland, or other parts of England? In 1871 they were living in Pearsons Place, Jarrow and in 1881 at Ferry St. Jarrow. Francis was a labourer in 1871, a labourer in the Iron works in 1881 and a riveter in 1886 when he dies in Sunderland. My biggest problem is finding out where they came from in Ireland. All I have for Francis is born Ireland but in the 1901 census Bridgit says she was born in Cork? but I can find no trace of her there. I hope that when the Irish came to Jarrow in early 1860's they came from a specific area of Ireland. They doesn't appear to be any connection with the other McQuaide family that was in Jarrow at the same time. Any help would be much appreciated.
