red mail John Ostle- schoolmaster in Co Durham
I have researched the Ostle family of Co Durham -they originated from Cumbria.John Ostle was born in Ireland in 1844 - his father worked as a supervisor for Inland Revenue hence his family had various places of birth. John`s sister Rebecca was my g-grandmother - I have a lot of Ostle family history back to 1588 but I cannot take the credit for that research only give thanks to other researchers who have passed on information to me.
red mail Shoulder of Mutton Public House
I am researching my G Grandfather Charles Elliott, who sometime after the 1901 Census, apparently ran a public house in Helmington Row called the Shoulder of Mutton. Has anyone got any info that could confirm that there was such a pub, or on Charles himself. Thanks

School Master
My GG Grandad was John Ostle who although born at Drumachose in N Ireland, became a School Master at Helmington Row School shortly before 1871. He remained at the school until after 1901. A daughter Sarah was also a teacher prior to marrying my Great Grandad Thomas Davison in 1907. I would very much like to hear from anybody with links to these names or indeed who can shed any more light on the school itself.
