Elgy Family
I am a direct descendant of this family and I know that there are quite a lot of people in this area who share the name. I am hoping to find anyone with connections to Gainford, and before that, Staindrop. My line is via John Elgy, born Butterknowle 1812, and married a Ruth Raine in 1837 at Auckland St. Helen( I understand that the Raine family are also quite numerous in the area). John's father was Charles Elgy, born Gainford 1770, and married an Elizabeth Sutton 1809 at Hurworth. His parents were James Elgy, born Staindrop 1711, who married twice, ...Alice Thirkeld in 1745 and Mary Cowling in 1767. His father was Richard Elgy, born Staindrop 1663, who married Margaret Marley in 1705 at Auckland St. Helen. If there is anyone out there who is researching the Elgy's or has any connection to this line ( or even earlier!!) I would be delighted to hear from them. Living in hope!
red mail John William Marriott Lodge,1879
John William Marriott Lodge was born in Ecclesall Bierlow, Sheffield, son of Joseph Lodge from South Emsall,Yorkshire and Emily Pigg from Bishop Aukland, Durham. It seems that Joseph may have died in December 1883 and his wife and child moved to Gainford shortly thereafter in 1884 to stay with relatives. The 1891 census records a John Lodge as a boarder at Gainford Acadamy which was owned by a relative of his mother, Emily Pigg. The Acadamy closed down in 1900. Does anyone have information on this family ? Did Joseph die in Ecclesall Bierlow or was it another ? I am willing to share information.

red mail John (1843) & Elizabeth Pearson
I am researching my tree and I am suffering from too many John & Elizabeth Pearsons. There were at least two John Pearsons at that time, one married Elizabeth Whitfield, the other Elizabeth Sedgewick. I believe that one of these Lizzies was hung in Durham Jail for murder. I would like to confirm which one it was. Can you help.
