I am looking for William Stephenson (1818-1887) married Ann (Hunter) in 1843 and had William J, Andrew, Mary Jane, Susannah, Hannah, and Ann. Several different places are listed for his birthplace but all are in Durham County and most of the census info lists residence as (Chapel Row) Chester Le Street. Ann's parents are Andrew and Ann but I am completely lost as to who William's parents were and if he had any siblings. Can someone PLEASE help?

Does anyone have any knowledge of this couple please. In the early 1930's they helped to bring up Kitty Taylor (13 years old in Dec 1930) after her family separated. Olive and Jack Carr lived then at Chester le Street and had a son, possibly other children too. Kitty remembered that Olive had had to look after a 'Grandma Westerman' for some time before she married Jack Carr. I think this was probably my mother's maternal grandmother, shown as Mary Ann Mullen on the 1881 census at Bullman Street, Cornforth, Co. Durham, a dressmaker aged 30, living with her children George Coates aged 7, Mary Mullen aged 4, Bertha H (poss.A?) Mullen aged 2. I am looking for more Carrs,Taylors, Coates and Westermans in the Durham/Darlington/ Chester le Street areas who might have a connection to Kitty Burridge (nee Taylor). Kitty was born at Ferryhill Dec. 1917. Her parents were Thomas and Bertha Taylor (nee Coates, also known as Bertha Mullen). Thankyou.

Does anyone have any information on Robert Tones born 1815 in the Chester le street area. He was a coal miner and was married to Jane Hutchinson. He had 9 children one of whom was Robert my great great grandfather. In 1851 he was living in Sherburn Hill. His father may have been James but I can't trace any further than this. Thanks

He was a coal hewer in the pits, born in Workington, Cumbria, son of Hiram Jones (Prestatyn) and Margaret Johnston (Dearham). Stephen had sons, William and Hiram Nicholas. Also looking for his father Hiram who seems to have been living as a lodger in Sunniside in 1911 but who had lived with wife and sons Robert, John and Stephen and daughter Sarah in Newcastle. My 3 x great grandfather James Smith was born in Mangalore India in about 1801...I suppose his dad was in the army. James married a Mary Forster in Durham in 1823, then he married MY ancestor Jane Minto in Chester le Street in 1832...the family stayed in and around Chester le Street after that, so his parents may have come from there in the first place. It's possible his father was called Luke (that is what James' first son was called). Does any one know of a Luke Smith who served in Mandragore India around 1800, possibly from the Chester le Street area? I'd love to know more about him. thanks
