I would be interested to hear from anyone who knows the history of the Barley Mow Inn. My G grandmother Sarah Ellen Hunter Robson was listed as living there in 1891 and her grandfather William Hunter was listed as Inn Keeper. It can't be the same pub that is there now as the current one is described as a 1930's brick building. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking for Frank born January 1956 and Pauline born 1962. Their mother was Jessie Vermuyten and their father was Joseph Edmondson. Jessie's mother was Marion Johnson of Chester-le-Street and her father was Joseph Vermuyten, a Belgian national who came to England during World War 2. The family lived in Birtley until at least 1992. There may have been another daughter. Please can anyone who knows of them let me know. I am their cousin Valerie (daughter of Joseph Edmondson's sister). There was a rift in the family, but all concerned are now dead and I wonder what became of them?

Looking for any info re John Bowman born C1800, a blacksmith in Birtley 1830/1840's and his descendants. His son, Thomas Bowman born 1835 was my Gt.Gt.Gt. Grandfather. Also Thomas' wife's family. She was Margaret Humble born in Birtley 1835, daughter of Joseph Humble and Jane Thornton. Joseph was a mason. In her later years Jane Humble(nee Thornton) ran the Blue Bell at Birtley.

My Gt Gt Uncle was Alderman Frank Goodyear of Durham, b 1873 in birtley, he was Mayor of Durham twice in 1916 and 1926. I am trying to find more information on his sister Emma who was my Gt Gt Grandmother she married George Frederick Tucker in York in 1882 and after he died she married Henry George Harris in 1893 and moved to Birtley. She had 2 sons from her first marriage William George Tucker and Frederick Charles Tucker.
