Kirkintilloch was a parish in the county of Dunbartonshire, in Scotland. It was created in 1845 and abolished in 1975. It was part of Cumbernauld Burgh (until 1649); and Kirkintilloch Burgh (from 1975).

my father was peter reid(dob 3/6/21, I think) had sister agnes (married name cooper), his father was also peter reid, his mother mary chalmers. my mother mary meikle fleming from carntyne (dob 1/8/22)..I was born june mary chalmers reid dob 9/6/48 at lennox castle hospital. we emmigrated to australia in 1949 on P@O ship 'ranchii' this is all new to me so any contact or advice would be much appreciated.. thank you

I'm researching the maternal side of my family who came from Kirkintilloch. I have my great great Grandparents as Charles Cassels marrying Janet McLaren in 1866. They lived in Townhead and both were cotton weavers. It's difficult to decipher the writing but I think the church they were married in may be St John Legart?. I know there are no churches matching this now however I see there is a Baptist Church at Townhead built after 1866 and a Church of Scotland at Cowgate. Does anyone have any information about churches now gone or renamed in that area?

A Christian Wallace was born Kirkintilloch On 27th January 1799 the fifth of seven children of William Wallace and Margaret Russell. I am looking to confirm that she is the wife of my ancestor Thomas Goodwin. My ancestor Thomas Goodwin and a Christian Wallace registered the birth of their first son John born 5th June 1816 in Kirkintilloch, Dunbarton. 4 of Thomas & Christian's 7 children were sponsored by James or Robert McFarlane. The name George Ure also appears as sponsor to 3 of the children. Are any of these names ringing bells for anyone??

A Christian McKay married a John Campbell, not sure what year or where, and had six children, I have what I think are five of the children, being Barbara, b 20 March 1820, Christian b 15 May 1822, John b 27 Sep 1823, Catherine b 17 Jan 1831 and Mary b 2 Apr 1833, all born at Kirkintilloch, Dunbarton, Scotland. My Grandfather Patrick Cosgorve was born in Kirkintilloch in 1896 - his Father was Thomas (born in County Leitrim in 1872) and his Mother was Mary Ann Leslie (born in Kikitilloch but both parents came from Ireland - Luke Leslie and Cecilia (nee Griffen). Patrick was one of a large family ( siblings included Tom, Luke, Cecilia, Michael, Amy and Iris)but lost touch with them when he moved to London - I'd love to hear from any relatives. Patrick incidently had nine children, fourteen gradchildren,twenty two great grandchildren and there are two great great grandchildren on the way!
