I have my GGreat Grandparents Robert DOWNEY and Helen BURNS married at Dromore RC Church 1st Jan 1854. They have 4 sons JAMES PATRICK DOWNEY b1854, ROBERT DOWNEY Jnr b1857, HUGH DOWNEY b1859, THOMAS DOWNEY b1863 and another HUGH born 1864. These boys were all baptised at DROMORE RC Church. I am following ROBERT DOWNEY Jnr who married SUSAN LONG c1875. They had a son THOMAS DOWNEY Jnr b1878. Susan may have deceased as THOMAS Snr married again to GERTRUDE ANN FAULKNER from Desertlyn, Derry, this time at the Church of Ireland. Their first child WILLIAM ROBERT DOWNEY was born 1885, JAMES DOWNEY 1886, ELLEN DOWNEY 1889, MARGARET DOWNEY 1892, JOHN DOWNEY 1894, HUGH DOWNEY 1895. They had 6 more children who all died as infants. All their children were born around Belfast, I assume Robert left Dromore as he converted to protestant upon marrying his 2nd wife GERTRUDE>

My cousin's name was Lizzie or Elizabeth. My Grandfather James F Patterson was sent to Scotland before 1910 to live with is Uncle Isaac Campbell in Furness. James ( Jim ) was a labourer. His sister's name was Maggie, bother Adam and John. Trying to trace the family. I know there was a sister who moved to Australia as well in the early 1900's. I visited the village and home in 2000. My ancestor stated in his family bible that he was born in Dromore of a linen family. His name was Samuel Minnis and he was born in 1770 and came to America around 1800 and settled in New York. He named his sons Paul, Robert, Adam, William and Adam.

William Jones/Agnes Kerr gave birth to William Jr. 13th October 1799. William Snr may have been a soldier. Any idea which regiment was serving in Co.Down at that time? Need further information as I believe they moved on from Dromore. Looking for information on Matthew Kerr b abt 1793 in Dromore Co Down, d August 1862 in Woodend, Victoria, Australia. I believe his father was named James Kerr but can find no record of his parents or siblings. Matthew married Jane Copleton (b abt 1795 in Banbridge Co Down) in Lisburn Co Down abt 1814. They had 11 children born between about 1821 and 1847 in Dromore. The eldest son James married Jane Townley from Banbridge abt 1843. Most of the family was living in Girvan, Ayrshire in 1851 and migrated to Australia from there in two groups in 1852 and 1856.

Searching for the family of John Nelson born 1854, Dromore County Down. His father's name was John Nelson died 4 Dec 1893 in Skeogh by Dromara County Down. His mother's maiden name was Jane McBurney death unknown. We know he had a brother Alexander died 28 Jan 1899 and another brother James and a sister name could be Bella McNeill. We keep drawing blanks finding out more about his family. John Nelson was my Great Grandfather who died in 1922 in Cave, New Zealand. I would love any help to trace them.

Looking for info on William McCarthy born 1831 who m'd Mary Jane Raverty in 1852 in Lisburn Registry office,but who subsequently lived all their life in Hillsborough/Dromore area.On their marriage cert Williams father is Henry Mc Carthy of Drumlough,Co Down. The only Henry I can find,in the right time frame, is a Henry Mc Carthy who m'd an Elizabeth Mercer in 1830.Does anyone know anything on these families?If it helps - William and Mary Jane's daughter Margaret Mc Carthy m'd James Mc Alister in 1886.Any help greatly appreciated. I am looking for information on Thomas Davison (born around 1865) and his fathers family James Davison ect.Both were involved in the linen trade in Dromore and Thomas ran into trouble at the mill over trade union activities .He also served in the South Down Milita,and later in Royal Irish Rifles at relief of Ladysmith with rankquarter master sergant.Any info welcome. Looking for any details for my 3rd Great Grandfather, his name was John Roy worked as a Carter/Labourer married to Esther Flannaghan or Brannaghan. Their son James Roy was christened at Dromore Parish County Down on 17 July 1833. He also had a sister Catherine born about 1838. Looks like Esther died after Catherine's birth as John Roy remarried in Port Glasgow, Scotland in 1854 and had more children. James Roy married Rebecca Clark and his sister Catherine married Rebecca's brother James both marriages took place in Port Glasgow. After James Roy and Rebecca Clark had a few children in Port Glasgow they disappeared perhaps returning to Ireland. Any information on this family would be appreciated. Thanks

Researching James M. Peel (b. poss. at Dromara or nearby 26 Mar 1861 or 1863; immigrated to USA 22 Mar 1880; d. 7 Mar 1901 at Washington, PA, USA). His father perhaps John Peel (b. Hillsborough parish, Down 17 Jan 1822), m. abt. 1844 Mary McAuley/McCauley/M'Auley etc. (b. Dromore parish, Down 15 Sep 1822). James had brother Elias (b. Annahilt parish 19 May 1865) who immigrated to USA at same time. Trying to confirm that John and Mary are James M. Peel's parents and, if not, who are correct parents. Any help appreciated.

Looking for information on the McKelvey and Berry families of Dromore. My gg-grandparents were Johnston McKelvey (1814 - 1896) and Sarah Berry (1818 - 1886), both born Dromore and married there in 1840. They emmigrated to US in 1842 where remainder of children were born. Johnston's parents may have been James McKelvey and Mary Hamilton. He had siblings Jane, Sarah, John, Anne, Mary, Catherine, James (who emmigrated to US also), Samuel, and Abel. Sarah's parents may have been James Berry and Margaret McCullough. She had siblings Thomas, Mary, William, Henry, and Catherine (who m. William Sprott).

My wife's family had Sprott ancestors in Dromore from at least 1800. Curiously, four of the daughters of Hugh Sprott (born 1834) have surnames as second or third Christian names viz. Hemsworth, McNaughton, McDermott and Edgerton; presumably ancestral. Nothing is known at the moment about their origins. Any ideas?

Mahood Family
Samuel Mahood and wife, Margaret Jane McBride lived in Listullycurran, Dromore, Down, Ireland. Their oldest son, James Nelson Mahood (b. 1840), went to the United States in 1867. The rest of the family (including children, Hugh, Margaret, Samuel (b.1848), George, Sarah and Robert) went to the United States (Nebraska) in 1870. Would be interested in sharing info on this family and would like to contact any cousins who might still be in the UK.
