My great grandmother Elizabeth STANTON née HANSFORD was born 20-10-1825 in Stoke Abbot of William Hansford 1789-1825 and Sarah née HOPKINS 1794-1855. After William's death Sarah married William COOMBS and had at least three daughters in Stoke Abbot before the whole group, including her Hansford children, moved to Stoke-sub-Hamdon in Somerset.

Rev Thomas Ansell - father William Ansell of Burford, Oxfordshire> Large family. William was tanner in Wantage, Berks where Thomas was born but moved back to Burford when tannery sold. We have the Burford tree and many family wills.
Lost 19th Century Ansells
I'm looking for any information on the Ansell family of Stoke Abbott between 1844-1877. Names include the Rev. Thomas, the Rev. Edward, the Rev. John, and Miss Ellen Ansell. Thomas spent time in Nova Scotia, 1863, as did Edward, 1875.
Roper's In Stoke Abbott
In 1569 the Tudor Muster Roll listed Andrew ROPER as a billman living in the Marshwoode Tything in the Hundred of Whytchurch. But he was buried in Stoke Abbott. He had 4 children, Wiilliam, Robert, Alice and John. All, except John, remained in StokeAbbott. The family lived in the village until around 1650. They married into local families GAYLORD, LORING,HICKS, CHICK and COOPER. I am happy to exchange information with anyone researching these families.

Robert CANTERBURY s/o Robert CANTERBURY and Tamsen (widow of GRANT) christened at Stoke Abbott 1 July 1744 married Mary SEAL d/o Richard SEAL and Elizabeth WRIXON christened 27 April 1746 at Stoke Abbott. Robert was buried at Stoke Abbott 14 July 1814 and Mary was buried at Stoke Abbott 23 November 1834. The marriage was at Stoke Abbott 8 April 1776 and 4 children have been located, all christened at Stoke Abbott. Richard (1776), James (1778), Elizabeth (1784) and Robert (1786). Robert and Tamsen were married at Stoke Abbott 9 March 1734/35. Four children located, all christenedat Stoke Abbott, Joan (1736), Mary (1737/38), Sarah (1742) and Robert (1744). Richard CANTERBURY s/o Robert CANTERBURY and Mary SEAL christened at Stoke Abbott 11 August 1776 married Elizabeth TUCKER d/o William TUCKER and Elizabeth christened at Beaminster, Dorset 2 June 1781. Richard and Elizabeth married at Beaminster 10 February 1807. Richard was buried at Stoke Abbott 13 November 1836 and Elizabeth was buried at Stoke Abbott 16 September 1856. 9 children located,the first 4 christened in Beaminster Mary Anne (1809) William (1812) Charles (1814) and Charlotte (1816).The other 5 were christened in Stoke Abbott: Job (1818) Caroline (1821) Harriet( 1823) Bethiah (1825) and George (1827) My direct line is through Caroline (refer entry SWAFFIELD / CANTERBURY)

George SEAL born about 1585 at Stoke Abbott married (1) Alice CHAMBERLYN 8 Feb 1605/06 at Stoke Abbott and (2)Luce CANTERBURY at Stoke Abbott 25 May 1608. Son Thomas christened 2 Sept 1611 at Netherbury, Dorset. Thomas later married at Stoke Abbott -see entry for SEAL / PAVIE.
