Effeny and Galton
I have just found that Martha Galton (as a widow, Martha Sherwood) married, or lived with Martin Effeny in Poole in 1871 and had two children baptised at St James, Poole in 1871 and 1873. I would love to hear more of this man and his children, I suspect the spelling has been recorded in various forms.
The Witteridge family were butchers for several generations. John and Mary married 2 Feb 1753, their son Samuel (1757-1805) married Johanna Ball (1757 - 1832) daughter of James and Joanna nee Russel. Their daughter Caroline married William Sowten, a butcher, in London. Births, deaths and marriages are faithfully recorded by OPC DORSET but I am unable to find any addresses in Poole or Okeford Fitzpaine apart from the churches. I have Samuel with a butcher's shop in Broad Street but Poole does not appear to have a Broad Street. Would love to learn more about the family. Penny

I am researching the Cherrett and Christodoulou family’s which I was adopted out of in 1950. I am searching for David George Christodoulou born on 27th August 1956 at 17 St Peters Road, Parkstone, Poole, Dorset. David was ADOPTED out of the family. His mother was Helen May Christodoulou (my sister) who sadly died in 1970. Helen was 16 when David was born. We also know that Helen was working at Max Factor when David was born. Helen went to Kemp Welsh school and left in 1955. Helen lived with her grandmother Ellen Toms (nee Cherrett), for a short while during the blitz years and later with Alfred and Elsie Merrifield at 3 White Close, Poole. This was probably an informal arrangement, as Helen was recorded at School (Kemp Welsh) as “Christodoulou”, and a “Mr Christodoulou” was recorded in the school attendance register, as her parent / carer. Poole. Helens parents were George Christodoulou and Phyllis Christodoulou (nee Cherrett). They divorced and both married again. George stayed in England and Phyllis went to Canada where she married Ernest Scott in 1954/5. I am trying to find David as he is my nephew. Tess (born Phyllis Theresa Christodoulou, sister to Helen)

red mail JONES, Henry
Hi, I am researching my Jones' (were it another more unusual surname!) links to Poole in Dorset. My 3 GGmother was Mary Ann Hudson, born in Cheddar. By 1859, Mary Ann Hudson was in Brisbane Australia, and married Henry Jones (my 3 Gfather) in December 1859 in Brisbane. The birth place for Henry is listed as Poole, Dorset on the marriage certificate (his mother was Elizabeth nee Brown (another common surname) would you believe?) and he would have been born about 1836 give or take some years. The name of Henry Jones’ father was Arthur Jones. The official government marriage certificate doesn't even show this, but that was taken from the parish records of St Johns Cathedral in Brisbane, Australia. I can send you a family tree of Henry Jones in Australia. I have checked the convict entries, but there are too many Jones to decide if one is the right one. Ditto for the arrivals in Australia. My daughter and I would love to find out more.

red mail Poole families
I am researching the families of Adey/Addy/Adie/Ady, Strong, Carter, Coombes and Guy. My Adey line originated in Burley, Hants and came to Poole when Stephen Adey built the Blue Boar(now Lord Nelson) pub on the Quay around 1750. His three sons Stephen, Thomas and William started out as mariners and entered the civic life of Poole. Thomas, my ancestor, married Elizabeth Strong, whose father owned the Dolphin brewery in Market Street, and whose mother Elizabeth nee Carter, was from the ropemaking family of that name from Hamworthy. As far as I can be sure there is no connection to the later Carters of Poole pottery. I would be interested to learn of anyone with connections to these families.
