Looking for info on my G G Grandfather, William Hall Coates born in Dewlish 1798. His parents were John Coates and Mary Hall, both from Ireland, although married in Cheselbourne in 1793. There were 3 other children that I know of, Charles Coates 1794 Charlotte Coates 1795 and Eliza Coates 1803 all born in Dewlish. I feel sure there were more between William Hall and Eliza. William Hall married Eliza Butler, Charles married Phillis Riggs, Charlotte married James Bartlett and Eliza married Richard Snelling. All stayed in Dorset apart from William Hall Coates who moved to Hampshire.
red mail John Hillier
I am looking for information about the WIFE of John Hillier (born Dewlish 15/8/1875, died Gloucester 1953). She was Lavinia Lane, and they married in Bristol in 1903. She MAY have been born in either Gloucestershire or Monmouthshire, but census searches have so far borne no fruit.
red mail Henry Burt born 1790 sought.
One of my wife's ancestors is Henry Burt, apparently born 1790 Dewlish Dorset. This date and place is supported by every census entry till his death, but we can only find a Henry Burt born in 1780. The 10 extra years would make him 99 years old on his death, as well as conflicting with all census data. It is possible that he was: A- born not in Dewlish but elsewhere. We continue to test this but no hits so far; or B- born at a time when baptism entries attracted a fee (this fee applied in the years around 1790); or C- baptised in a non CE church. We struggle to identify which would be likely ones.
