Willis and Heal - (Huntshaw - Devon)
Mary Willis, one of my 3rd great grandmothers, was born in Huntshaw in 1801. She married Thomas Martin, in Huntshaw, in 1821. I have recently made some progress on the ancestry for Thomas, but Mary's ancestry remains unclear. Mary's father was Phillip Willis, born, I think, in Ugborough in 1777. He married Susannah Heal (or Heale, or Hele) in Yarnscombe in1801. Further records for both the Willis and Heal names is not as clear cut as I would like, with different sources producing some contradictory evidence. For example - Susanna Heale, b. Burrington 1770 - Susanna Heal, b. Yarnscombe 1773 - and Susanah Hele, b. Ugborough, 1774 - which is which?? Obviously on the evidence of the marriage detail the Susanna from Yarnscombe might be favourite, but the name differences are confusing. If anyone can help me with the Willis/Heal connections, I would be most grateful.
