Samuel CONGDON born abt 1819 at Torquay or Plymouth Devon. He died in Newfoundland. His death & marriage records differ on the place of his birth. His father was James and he had a sister who lived to be abt 112 yrs old (her name may have been Elizabeth) .Sam visited England (the place of his birth) on many occasions. I am looking for any information connected with the Hortop and Rowe families in Devon. They come from the Clovelly, Bideford and Hartland areas of North Devon. This is the information I have so far: Hortop family: Rowland Sutton Hortop (born c 1846)(a sailor), married Charlotte ???? and had the following children: Fanny Hortop (Born c 1875) William (born c 1879) Rowland (born c 1882) William Hortop (also a sailor) married Emmeline Rowe in 1908 (see below for her family details) and had a son,Rowland Hortop in 1912 (they had other children, but I have not managed to trace them yet). Rowland Hortop married Bertha Florence Hancock and they had a son, David Hortop born 1947. Rowe family: Henry Rowe (born c1830)(Farm Labourer) Married Fanny???? and had the following children: Mary J Rowe (Born c1873) William Rowe (Born c1875) James H Rowe (Born c1876) Thomas Rowe (Born c1878) Elizabeth Ann Rowe (Born c1880) Charlotte Rowe (Born c1882) Alfred Richard Rowe (Born c1885) Fanny Grace Rowe (Born c1887) Lewis Rowe (Born C1889) Emmeline Rowe (Born c1890) Emmeline Rowe married William Hortop in 1908 (as detailed above). I'm looking for any info anyone may have on a man named Raymond Price. He was an artist, and his last known address was in Teignmouth, Devon. He has been jailed for petty crimes: he takes money from people saying he needs a train fare home. I'm a member of a group called Join Me: we carry out random acts of kindness for strangers: and the first person we ever helped out was Raymond! Imagine our dismay when we found out he was a convicted criminal!! WARD Christopher Farmer married Louisa BLAKE and worked as Gardener and Cook on Lundy Island for family HEAVEN. One known son John Blake WARD was witness to marriage in Australia of Annie Louisa WARD and Walter Charles Hudson HEAVEN, February 14 1895. Walter and Annie returned to England and had 2 daughters. Annie died in Royal Portsmouth Hospital aged 30yrs March 15 1906. Have found 1 only possible birth cert. for Annie in Wolverhampton August 27 1876. Parents Joseph WARD and Sarah Ann (HILL)Was this Joseph a son of Christopher and Louisa WARD? who seemingly took on rearing Annie on Lundy Island. Any connections or more information appreciated.

Holmes/snow/coates/richards/benham
William Holmes and Sophia Snow married in the Parish of Mortehoe in May 1828. They lived in Mortehoe until about 1836 when thy moved to Georgeham where they farmed until the early 1850's when the family emigrated to Canada. Sophia's parents were William Snow and Julian Coates of Mortehoe and West Down. We believe that William Holmes' parents were Katherine Richards and William Holmes and that Katherine's parents were William Richards and Joanna Benham. Joanna was the daughter of Francis Benham and Ann Whitfield. Ann, the daughter of William Holmes and Sophia Snow married William Bray Scott of Tawstock in 1851 and then emigrated to Canada. The eldest son, William, married Mary Smith about 1851 but they did not emigrate until the early 1870's. Any further information on any of these people will be appreciated
