red mail Thomas B. Jeffery automaker
I don't know anything about genealogy, but my father is quite involved with it and I will pass the site to him. I collect American Motors and Rambler cars. I am trying to research the founder of the company, a Thomas B. Jeffery, born 1845 in Plymouth, Devon. My information begins around 1863 when he immigrated to the United States, in Chicago. In 1892 he shared a patent for a clincher bicycle tire with an R. Gormully (sometimes spelled Gormley). By 1897 he had an operating horseless carriage, and by 1902 Thomas B. Jeffery and Co. wes the second maker in the US to produce 1500 autos (one year behind Olds, one year ahead of Ford). He died in 1910, I believe, in Pompeii, Italy.
