Most of my family on the Devon side came from the Broadwoodwidger,Virginstow and St giles in the Heath Parishes that abut each other in Devonshire. The furthest I have reached back so far are William Palmer Born in Broadwood in 1817. He had a wife called Ann from Ashbury born in 1821. John Bassett born in Tetcott in 1809 and married to Jane Titball of Tetcott born 1816. Richard Davey of St Giles in the Heath 1801.He had a wife called Mary of Boyton, Cornwall born 1802. William Bray of North Tamerton Cornwall born 1792. married to Harriett from Northlew Devonshire born 1801.

Searching for details of a Mary Curtis, domestic servant, who lived at 'Norton Broadwoodwidger' in 1894 and had a daughter called Lily or Lillie that year. She may later have married a William Broad, born in Lewdown, and Lily's father may have been surnamed Hill. Any clues gratefully received!!

Shopland Village Blacksmith
William Shopland was the Village blacksmith at Grinnacombe Cross Broadwoodwidger from 1821. He was followed by his son James. William was married to Judith Rich Blackmore. and son James married Mary Jane Shears 1860. One of James sons JOHN was my grandfather, who moved to Devonport and joined the Devonport Borough Police.
