red mail Boam
Am researching my grandmother's family.Joseph b. c.1760 and Sarah BOAM are the furthest back that I have managed They lived in Shipley from c.1792 ( bap. son Henry , Heanor St Lawrence) onwards . I have searched local parish records but cannot find any Boam references prior to 1792. There are references to other children in non-conformist records. Any help or suggestions appreciated!
red mail William Stirland / Stirling
Looking for information on the parents of William Stirland / Stirling, born 1810 in the Shipley area. William lived in Shipley all through the 1841 - 1881 censuses when he died again in Shipley. On the early censuses he was named Stirling and indeed his death certificate says Stirling, but he appeared in some of the censuses as Stirland / Sterland. Most of the children seem to have the Stirland surname although the eldest John, and his descendants appear to have kept Stirling. It was suggested by someone in Australia, who researched the family, that William was actually born around Matlock to a Thomas and Maria Stirland, but I found a burial record for that Thomas for 1832 in the Matlock parish records so that has gone out of the window. On a recent trip to the record offices in Matlock I did come across a baptism for a child where in the Childs name which is normally the christian name WILLIAM FISHER and described as the "natural born son of Betsey Stirland" There was no father mentioned on the record. This was on the 25th of March 1810. Betsey went on to marry a John Fisher of Ilkeston, at Heanor on the 22nd of December the same year. There are a number of things which suggest to me that these would be Williams parents. The date matches and the baptism falling under Ilkeston would appear reasonable given the proximity to Ilkeston and the fact that the father appears to live there. The names of the children favour John and Betsey as his parents too. The Children are as follows: John STIRLING 1830 - 1885 Matches John Fisher (as grandfather) William STIRLAND 1832 - 1911 Matches the childs father Samuel STIRLAND 1834 - 1906 Matches wife Sarahs father Betsy STIRLAND 1835 - 1903 Matches suspected grandmother of child Millicent STIRLAND 1837 - No known relationship Daniel STIRLAND 1838 - 1890 Possible father of Betsey Hannah STIRLAND 1841 - 1866 No known relationship Mary STIRLAND 1842 - 1886 Sarahs mothers name Henry STIRLAND 1845 - 1888 no known relationship Thomas STIRLAND 1847 - 1869 No known relationship Sarah STIRLAND 1850 - 1861 The mothers name From Derbyshire Names in Misc Lists Vol 1 DB/G37 I know that A Daniel Stirland rented a house and garden at Shipley for a rent of £2 12s 0d per annum in 1823, putting him in the right area (if a little late for proof) that he could be a relative. What I want to know is. 1) Given that Betsey and John were not married at the time of the wedding, would I be correct in assuming that the child would have been baptised as William Fisher Stirland rather than William Fisher. 2) How can I prove conclusively that then that this William Fisher Stirland is my great great great grandfather so that I can continue the search backwards?
red mail Samuel Beale Mine death 1929
I have been researching the decendants of William Stirland (or Stirling) born about 1810 and in doing so have found that Samuel Beale, the husband of one of his descendants, Clara Eliza Johnson, died at Shipley Colliery, Shipley, Derbyshire in 1929. Does anyone out there have any information on how Samuel died. I have included Clara's perdigree so that we can be sure that we are talking about the correct person as I don't have Samuels info, other than that he was born about 1891 in Mapperley, Derbyshire and died in 1929. 1 Thomas JOHNSON . +Jenny BURGOYNE m: 25 Dec 1780 .... 2 Jane JOHNSON 1785 - .... 2 William JOHNSON 1786 - .... 2 Sarah JOHNSON 1789 - .... 2 Elizabeth JOHNSON 1791 - .... 2 Ann JOHNSON 1794 - .... 2 Phoebe JOHNSON 1799 - .... 2 Thomas JOHNSON 1803 - .... 2 Joseph JOHNSON 1804 - .... 2 Richard JOHNSON 1808 - ...... +CHARLOTTE 1810 - 1877 d: 1877 .......... 3 William JOHNSON 1835 - 1903 ............ +Millicent STIRLAND 1837 - 1900 m: 22 Mar 1856 ............... 4 Richard JOHNSON 1856 - ............... 4 Sarah JOHNSON 1859 - ............... 4 Milicent JOHNSON 1860 - ............... 4 Charlotte JOHNSON 1863 - ............... 4 Hannah JOHNSON 1865 - ............... 4 Henry JOHNSON 1866 - ............... 4 William JOHNSON 1867 - 1912 ................. +Sarah Ann ANDERSON 1869 - m: 1890 >>>>>>>>>>>......... 5 Clara Eliza JOHNSON 1891 - .................... 5 Louise JOHNSON 1893 - .................... 5 Milly JOHNSON 1895 - .................... 5 Anne May JOHNSON 1898 - .................... 5 William Edward JOHNSON 1901 - .................... 5 Dora JOHNSON 1905 - .................... 5 Thomas H JOHNSON 1908 - ............... 4 Thomas Henry JOHNSON 1870 - ............... 4 Martha Ann JOHNSON 1871 - ............... 4 Eliza JOHNSON 1874 - ............... 4 Dinah Ada JOHNSON 1876 - ............... 4 Louisa JOHNSON 1878 - ............... 4 Daniel JOHNSON 1884 - .......... 3 Richard JOHNSON 1839 - .......... 3 Ann JOHNSON 1845 - 1868 .......... 3 Eliza JOHNSON 1849 - 1 William STIRLAND/STIRLING 1810 - 1886 . +Sarah RHODES 1810 - 1862 m: .... 2 John STIRLAND/STIRLING 1830 - 1885 .... 2 William STIRLAND/STIRLING 1832 - 1911 .... 2 Samuel STIRLAND 1834 - 1906 .... 2 Betsy STIRLAND 1835 - .... 2 Millicent STIRLAND 1837 - 1900 ...... +William JOHNSON 1835 - 1903 m: 22 Mar 1856 .......... 3 Richard JOHNSON 1856 - .......... 3 Sarah JOHNSON 1859 - .......... 3 Milicent JOHNSON 1860 - .......... 3 Charlotte JOHNSON 1863 - .......... 3 Hannah JOHNSON 1865 - .......... 3 Henry JOHNSON 1866 - .......... 3 William JOHNSON 1867 - 1912 d: 1912 ............ +Sarah Ann ANDERSON 1869 - m: 1890 >>>>>>>>>...... 4 Clara Eliza JOHNSON 1891 - ............... 4 Louise JOHNSON 1893 - ............... 4 Milly JOHNSON 1895 - ............... 4 Anne May JOHNSON 1898 - ............... 4 William Edward JOHNSON 1901 - ............... 4 Dora JOHNSON 1905 - ............... 4 Thomas H JOHNSON 1908 - .......... 3 Thomas Henry JOHNSON 1870 - .......... 3 Martha Ann JOHNSON 1871 - .......... 3 Eliza JOHNSON 1874 - .......... 3 Dinah Ada JOHNSON 1876 - .......... 3 Louisa JOHNSON 1878 - .......... 3 Daniel JOHNSON 1884 - .... 2 Daniel STIRLAND 1838 - 1890 .... 2 Hannah STIRLAND 1841 - 1866 .... 2 Mary STIRLAND 1842 - 1886 .... 2 Henry STIRLAND 1845 - 1888 .... 2 Thomas STIRLAND 1847 - 1869 .... 2 Sarah STIRLAND 1850 - 1861 . +Caroline DAVIES 1815 - 1900 d: m: 1870 I hope that someone out there can help.
