red mail Brooks, Bostock, Leedham, Toon - any out there?
I have discovered that many of my ancestors were born, baptised, lived, worked and died in Chuch Gresley and Hartshorne, Woodville (formerly Wooden Box). Most of the ones in Church Gresley were potters, some miners. Stephen Leedham Bostock, potter, my great great great grandfather was born in Church Gresley in 1815. He married Ann Toon, daughter of the local baker Thomas Toon, in 1837 and they had six children including my great great grandmother Mary Bostock born in 1842 (the birth certificate actually gives the time of day she was born!). Stephen died of pleurisy in 1857. Mary Bostock married William Brooks, potter(born in 1841 in Wooden Box or Woodville)in 1866 and they started off their married life in Church Gresley, living on Gresley Common (at one time in Jack i' th' Hole which is now part of an industrial estate by the look of it) before moving to Rotherham and then back to the brilliantly named Mushroom Lane, Ashby Woulds. I have quite a lot of information on these people including GRO certificates so if anyone out there is interested, please get in touch. The Bostocks seem to hail from Hartshorne before coming to Church Gresley, Derbyshire; The Toons from Moira, Leicestershire; The Leedhams (Stephen Leedham Bostock's mother was Alice Leedham, born in Church Gresley in 1777)seem to hail from Melbourne, Derbyshire before coming to Church Gresley; The Brooks from Hartshorne.

red mail Tunnicliffe
My grandfather William Payne Tunnicliffe was born in Church Gresley 1864 and lived in Swadlincote, Highfield road. I have traced his parents as George T (coalminer) and his wife Elizabeth (Payne) living at Overseal in 1881. George's mother was Mary T(widow) in 1861 census of Overseal. George was apparently a late addition to the family of James b.ca 1795 and Mary his wife. Any further information would be much appreciated. Peter
