Joseph Jones, Chesterfield and Stockport
Joseph Jones b 1882 was my grandfather. He married my grandmother Charlotte Elizabeth Taylor in 1905. Their only child to survive infancy was born in 1913. Charlotte remarried in 1916. Marriage certificate stated she was a widow. I am unable to find exactly when and where my grandfather died. He may have died in Chesterfield or Sheffield but could have in WW1. I have been unable to find any records. My grandmother remarried twice, first to a Garner then to a Boler.

Joseph Jones 1882- of Stockport, Cheshire
I am trying to find the death of my grandfather Joseph Jones. I know he had at least three children, Charlotte Elizabeth 1909-10, Joseph A 1911-11 and Caroline 1913 - 1998. My grandmother, Charlotte Elizabeth Jones nee Taylor also died around the same time. I have not found the date of her death but believe it was in Chesterfield. My mother was adopted and her names changed to Elsie Nightingale. Just before she was adopted she was placed with a family called Bowler. I am unable to find them. In 1911 my grandparents had a boy in their care called Frank Ross. I found his mother and his spouse but do not know what happened to him immediately after my grandparents died. My mother talked of an older brother and it must have been him. Any information or clues about any of these people gratefully received

red mail Tapton City, Chesterfield
This was a small hamlet of 8 houses situated between Grove Lane (now Grove Road) and Dark Lane.It appears to have existed from pre-1851 until about 1952 when it was demolished as unfit for human habitation. There was no gas, electric or water and toilets were earthen "middens" which were emptied weekly by a man with a horse and cart.Water was obtained from a stream, fed by a spring,at the bottom of the gardens.I obtained this information from a second cousin, recently found, who was born there in 1925.

red mail Elijah Hallam - Hero
If there are any descendants of Elijah Hallam, born about 1852 in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, then you could be related to a hero. In 1875, a miner called Elijah Hallam at a Silkstone pit near Chesterfield, rescued 5 men from a cage hanging 300ft down a mine shaft. I came across the story whilst looking for something else but felt compelled to find out more. In the 1881 census I see one likely person. At that time he had 5 children so there should be some descendants out there. Contact me for more info.

Olive Hayes-Chesterfield
I was born,David Hayes,at Chesterfield & N. Derbyshire Hospital in 1938. My mother, Miss Olive Hayes, gave her address on my Birth Certificate as The Crest, Donisthorpe, B.O.T., R.D. She was also using 36 Clarence Road, Chesterfield as a contact address. This was home for unwed mothers run by Nurse Whetter, who adopted me to a couple in Littleover. Olive's registered address was 317 Abbeydale Road, South, Dore Sheffield, where she was a housekeeper. Any help with this family or address would be appreciated. Ten years of research (from Arizona) has given no leads. The Donisthorpe connection has produced no leads.Could it have been Linton (a slight deception) as Linton has a High Street and The Crest which runs off High Street? Please ask your older villagers.
FINING/CANNON
I'm looking for info on these two names in Chesterfield Derbyshire in 1880's - 1920's. They're connected to my family tree, but as yet I haven't figured out how! There's very little information anywhere on the internet on Fining so I presume it's an unusual variant of a more common name. Can exchange what info I have with other researchers for these names. March 2010 - Have made lots of progress on this family - I now know that the Fining or Finan name has connections with the Barnsley area too. Other family names I now have are Marsden, Lowe, Mee, Berridge, Kelley, O'Neill.

Joe Charlesworth Rollinson was baptised as Joseph Rollinson in Sheffield Cathedral on 31 July 1835, the son of Joseph Rollinson & Ellen Oldham nee Woodruff. On 4 September 1856 he married Betsy Clough at Leeds Parish Church. Joe Charlesworth Rollinson was declared bankrupt on 6 February 1864 at the Court of Bankruptcy for the Leeds District. He was then described as a licensed victualler of Chesterfield. After that date I have no knowledge of what became of him. I should be very grateful for any information about his time in Chesterfield and any indications about what became of him after 1864.
