Susana Winter
Susanna Winter born in St. Merryn, Cornwall, is my 2nd GGMother. She married George Lee of Padstow. Her daughter Mary Lee b 1847 is my GG Mother who came to Australia in 1865 after being married to and having a daughter (Susanna Beatrice Broad) to Samuel Broad. They married in 1865. Mary left Cornwall in September that year and arrived in Melbourne Australia without child or husband. We do know what the story is. What I'm interested in is if anyone has any information on George Lee b 1814. We can track him back to his mother Fanny Leah who was married to William Leah. They say George was base born as William is not found in the records after 1814. It would be great to be able to track William & Fanny back. Cheers Judith
red mail Mystery of missing lighthouse keeper and his son
Alfred Goodwin was a lighthouse keeper. He worked the West Usk Lighthouse, St Brides Monmouthshire and his eldest son, Lushington Loftus Goodwin, was born there in 1845. The whole family moved to St Merryn in Cornwall where Alfred was assigned to the Trevose Lighthouse. This is near Padstow. Unfortunately, Alfred disappeared between 1856 and 1861 and there is no known grave or death registered for him I wonder if anyone knows what happened to him? I have tried the Trinity house web but no joy. Also, his son, Lushington was a sailor and married Mary Mitchel Williams at St Mary The Virginity, Glamorgen. He also disappeared BUT in 1890 and ,so I am told,it was in Valparaiso, Chile but I have nothing to confirm this. There is also rumours of a child in Chile called Alfredo, but, again its speculation. So, it's a puzzle which I, and lots of other people with them in their trees cannot solve. I hope someone can give me some tips on how to find them, if ever. Thanks from Anne P.S. The Usk Lighthouse was featured on T.V. on The Hotel Inspector. (Just a bit of useless trivia)
