William Retallack married Charlotte Long on 18th May 1840, St Austell. William was born abt 1818 in St Austell and died abt 1866 in Sunderland, Co Durham. William`s father was Henry Retallack, whose occupation in 1840, was a `Taylor`. Charlotte was baptised on 17th October 1819, St Austell and died abt 1860, Easington, Co Durham, England. Charlottes father was William Long, occupation in 1840 was as a Labourer. William and Charlotte had a number of children, mostly born in the N.E. of England. One son, Henry Retallack, born abt 1844, St Austell, married Isabella Scott, in 1870, Sunderland, Co Durham, England, At some point between the 1871-1881 census Henry, wife Isabella and family went to Pennsylvania, America, where Henry Retallack jnr was born abt 1874. The family were back in Sunderland for the 1881 census where they can be found under the surname Battalack. Are these Retallack`s connected with your tree? Andrew was a miner and went to Pennsylvania and then to New Almaden, California. All of my mother's Family were miners from Cornwall. I am trying to find Loveday Roberts and Francis Best. She had a son from an earlier marriage named Richard born 1864 and on the 1871 census was living with her father Digory Ellory. She married Francis Best in c1872 and they had a son named Francis c1873. I know that Richard Roberts married my great aunt in NSW Australia in 1898 and he was a widower at that time. Neither Loveday, Francis or Robert appear on the 1881 census. Do not know where they disappeared to. Any help would be appreciated

He immigrated to the United States in 1879, sponsored by his uncle Joseph Thomas, and became a gold miner in Nevada City, California. His parents were Richard Thomas (birth: 27 February 1820 - Tregonissey, St. Austell) and Elizabeth Minear (Birth: 10 February 1822, Borlone, St Austell - parents Joseph Minear and Mary Ann Wheray?). Richard's parents were John Thomas (Birth: 7 October 1781, Borlorne -parnets John Thomas and Mary Penhall) and Rebecca Barkel (birth: 1795 - parents unknown).

John Bale was born in 1836. He married Julia anna Goldsworthy in dec 1865 Falmouth and they had 2 children, John Henry Bale and Anna Mary Bale. Their marriage certificate states that Johns father was Henry Bale (Gentleman). (John and Julia were both Journeymen Tailors) Family lore states that he asked Julia to go with him to sea(1870ish) but she would not take the children. He Left to become a china clay merchant with some red head(no name). I am trying to connect his father Henry with a Henry Adolphus Bale(Gentleman b. 1819 in london) who was married to Elizabeth margaret Thriscutt in 1846. Perhaps John was an illigitimate child of Henry Adolphus prior to his marriage to Elizabeth. I cannot find John Bale in any census in the entire U.K. But have found Julia, the children and this Henry Adolphus and family many times. Any information regarding the possible connection would be appreciated. or any information on the elusive John Bale would be VERY welcomed. Thank you :)

Can anyone check a parish register for me. Cornwall FHS printout shows a marriage of Betsy VIVIAN to Richard JENKINS 15 Aug 1829 in St Austell. 1851 FreeCEN shows Betsy HOSKING living with mother Catherine VIVIAN and 7 childen but no father. The 1841 FreeCEN shows a Richard HOSKIN with his wife Elizabeth with 5 children the youngest 3 being among the 7 of the 1851 Census. Could HOSKING have been read as JENKINS?

Any information on the above person who is possibly my ggg-grandmother. Found in 1901 Census at the age of 78 living in Lower Porthpean but cannot find in earlier censuses. Query on spelling of surname as entry is indistinct. Anecdotal evidence from my family suggests the Treslaw family were builders and helped build the Market Building in St Austell.

James Thomas is my ggg-grandfather. According to the 1871 census (Crowan parish) James was was born in St Austell in 1836. He married Susan Skewes (b. 1837 Gwennap) 1857 in Phillack . Children are: Mary Jane THOMAS (b. 1858 Phillack) Emily Jane THOMAS (b. 1862 Phillack) William THOMAS (b. 1865 Crowan) Bessie THOMAS (b. 1867 Crowan) James THOMAS (b. 1869 Crowan) Sarah THOMAS (b. 1871 Crowan) John THOMAS (b. 1873 Gwinear) Gertrude THOMAS (b. 1878 Gwinear) Beatrice THOMAS (b. 1880 Gwinear) The 1881 census (Gwinear/Deveral) does not have James Thomas included in the Thomas household. I believe James' father to be James Thomas, Sr (b, 1810/11) and believe both James Jr and Sr were connected with the Cornish Copper Company at Hayle as blacksmiths.

My great-great-grandfather, John Coombe (1842-1893), was born at St. Austell in Cornwall in 1842 and died aged 52 at Clunes in Victoria, Australia on 30 August 1893. He married Mary Jane Barnett (1840-1891), the daughter of Loveday and James Barnett, who was born at St. Austell in Cornwall in 1840 and died from influenza at Canterbury Street in Clunes on 2 October 1891. Baptist minister,Rev. John Henry Osborne married Emma - in 1842 at St Austell. She died and in 1847 he married Mary Merifield (a widow). She had died by the time of the 1851 Census. When Rev. JHO died in 1886 he left parts of his estate to Elizabeth Truscott, sister of Emma, and property of Mary to Benjamin Andrew, Thomas Stocker and Edward Stocker - all of St Austell. Looking for parents, grandparents of CAROLINE CARVETH married to KENNETT (Kenneth) BANKS (Bankes) c1821 at St Austell. I am looking for Robert Gilbert, b 1860, he married Grace Ann May from St.Ewe,in 1882. After 1886 he supposedly left his family and went to America. I have no other information. Grace Ann listed herself as a widow on the 1901 census, but Roberts's granddaughter insists that he went to America. I would love to find where he is buried, can anyone help?
