Searching for information on my Elliot roots. My grandparents, James (born in Glasgow in 1878 died in Devonside in 1960) married Martha Stewart Phillips(born 1878 died in 1948 in Devonside)in 1902. The moved to Devonside in 1908 and lived on Alexandra street most of their lives. While there, Jim worked in the coal mines and they raised nine children--Agnes, Elizabeth, Martha, James (my father) Mary, John, Willam, Robert and David. Son James (born in 1908) began working in the mines --probably at Devonside--when he was 13 1/2. He emigrated to Alberta, Canada in 1928. I am looking for any information on any members of this family for a memoir I am writing on my roots. Thanks -- Jim in Canada

red mail Lawrie, Walker
John Lawrie married Elizabeth Walker 1845, in Tillicoultry. (John's parents were John Lawrie and Catherine Ferguson, who married in Dunblane.) Who were Elizabeth's parents? An Elizabeth Walker was living close to the Lawries in 1841, but she would have been too young to marry in January 1845 (age on 1841 census is 10). The age may be inaccurate. Her parents may have been Robert Walker and Elizabeth Davidson, who married in Melrose, Roxburghshire.
My Great Great Grandmother was born in Tillicoultry in 1855 her name was Elizabeth scott, Daughter of George Scott and Janet Robertson. She married Herbert Fell in 1878.
