red mail Halliwell and Dunnes - (Reddish - Cheshire)
Hi. My father Thomas, Uncle Fred and Grandfather Frederick were all stonemasons practising their craft in the Stockport and Manchester areas prior to the second world war. Grandfather Frederick was born in Rochdale, Lancs in 1884 and his father Joseph was born in Wigan in 1840. My mother Florence, nee Dunne was born in 1916 and lived with her parents John and Florrie Dunne in Reddish Vale. At the time of the 1901 census John Dunne was a lodger at 19, Willow Street, Bradford, Manchester and was employed as a 'tapper' in the calico works in Reddish Vale. Any information as regards the Halliwells and Dunnes, particularly my grandmothers (Florrie Dunne's) maiden name would be gratefully received.
red mail Kelley/Kelly/Hewitt - (Reddish - Cheshire)
I am looking for my uncle Albert Kelly (b c1933), he lives/d in the Reddish area, he had 2 brothers, Ronald and Bernard Hewitt, both lived in Sale. Their father was also called Albert and their mother Lillian (nee Hewitt). Albert was a butcher around the late 60s into the 70s. I am tracing my family history and I would like to hear from uncle Albert or anybody who knows him, any information would be gratefully appreciated however small.
red mail Johnson/Sullivan - (Reddish - Cheshire)
I am looking for anyone who knew a Helen Johnson (nee Sullivan) around 1945. She lived on Naseby Road with her parents, was married to Francis Bernard Johnson (known as 'Bill' who was with the 23rd Field Regiment - serving in the Central Mediterranean). Her father was Mortimer 'John' Sullivan (Irish) and her mother was Eva Sullivan. Helen was born in 1925 and at the time of her marriage (1943) worked as a 'Filer' in a 'Munitions Factory'. Helen and her mother both died in a tragic accident in January 1946, and due to the passing of time, I am finding it very difficult to find anyone who knew her. I am hoping she had a friend whom she may have confided in - 1945 was indeed a very traumatic year for the young Helen - I don't wish to divulge any further information as yet but although I know a lot about Helen's short life, it is the romance she had with an American Serviceman that I am desperate to find out about. Does anyone know what 'Munitions' Factories were in and around the Reddish area at the time, or what American Camps were set up in the area? Any information gratefully received. many thanks to you all.

red mail Lea's of Cheshire - (Saighton - Cheshire)
I'm looking in particular for info about my GGgrandfather Thomas Lea who in the 1861 census was resident at Huyton Lancs., but was born in Saighton Cheshire in 1822. I think he married a Mary Ann Pugh (b1822 Shrewsbury)in 1846. In Saighton I think he may have been a farmer and small salt mine owner (which were very common in the area in those days) and moved to Huyton were he was a farmer & small colliery owner. This move from salt to coal was probably due to Cheshire salt becoming unprofitable at the time due to overproduction from to many salt mines. One of his sons Alderman John Lea (my Ggrand uncle) became Lord Mayor of Liverpool 1904/5 and was married to Isabella Mclaren Evans. The Evans family were very large salt mine owners in Cheshire who also moved into Lancashire coal. So any info. on Cheshire Evans's and Shropshire Pughs would be interesting.

red mail Mixed up family Hampson - (Werneth - Cheshire)
I am trying to sort out the family of Frank Hampson born c1812 in Hyde, Cheshire I have him as being married to Ann Turner in 1831. She already had a son John Turner born c1829. Together Frank & Ann had 5 children to my knowledge, George, Henry, Betty, Joseph & Charlotte. After the death of Ann, Frank married Hannah Rowbotham - 30 years his junior and they had a child Hannah born1877.Charlotte was born May 1837 and died at the end of that year. Her christening record shows her parents as being Frank Hampson & Ann Turner. My problem is Betty. The 1861 census shows her as being married to Hugh Kinder (they still living with Frank Hampson & his wife Ann). The 1871 census shows Betty O Kinder living with her husband Hugh and her widowed father Frank. The record of the marriage of Hugh Kinder shows he married a Betty Oldham Hampson - so far so good. However the only record of the birth of Betty that I could find was father Frank Hampson, mother Betty Oldham hence the name Betty Oldham Hampson. BUT Betty was born Jan 1837, 4 months before Charlotte. Have I got something muddled here or was Frank playing away from home and his wife Ann agreed to take in this child Betty after her daughter Charlotte had died ( perhaps Betty Oldham had died or was single and unable to care for the child). If anyone is researching this family and can straighten this out for me I would much appreciate it. I would also be interested if Turner was the maiden name of Ann or was it Ann Hyde married to George Turner. Many thanks
