I'm seeking info on Ffosygaseg farm and Rees EVANS, born c1762. The farm is in the Evans family from the census of 1841 to 1911 at least. After Rees's death in 1853 the farm passed to his son David & then to David's son-in-law Jacob Jenkins. I have come across a reference to a will from 1820 for a John Evans of Ffosygaseg. At that time Rees was living in Llanwenog with his wife Martha and their children Thomas (b1814), Margaret (b1817) and Evan (b1821). Is this John Evans a relation of Rees Evans? I cannot be sure about John's origins and identity as there were several DANIEL families in Carmarthen. John and Rosanna's daughter Mary married my g-g-grandfather William HYDE in Merthyr Tydfil in 1850. I have traced Rosanna in the 1851 and 1861 censuses, but not in 1861. red mail Rowlands Edward Edwards Evans - (Llangeitho - Cardiganshire)
Of repute, my ancestor was Daniel Rowlands 1713 to 1790, a famous preacher of his time, who broke away from the Church of Wales and held services for up to three thousand people, by megaphone, having been thrown out by the church. He died in 1790 and the Calvinistic Methodist Church was founded on his newly acquired but strict moral code. His statue in the graveyard. Amazingly, I hit the Rowlands name in my ancestry at Great Grandparent level and, indeed, the birth was for Ann Rowlands of Llangeitho 1852 to father William Rowlands, 1825 Gwynfil, jockey/horse dealer and mother Margaret Edwards. There was no marriage found for William Rowlands to a Margaret Edwards. However, I believe that Margaret was born at Llanbadarn Odwyn (consistent) in 1821, though her age varies, as Margaret Jones, her father Evan Jones 1795, farmer, born at Lampeter and her mother Ceinor/Kinor/Ceyner nee Evans, born 1795 at Gwynfil, who died in 1867. William's wife Margaret was shown as Margaret Edwards with her parents and unmarried, in 1851 census, with the grandchild of Evan Jones also residing there, being William Rowlands aged 2. William Rowlands born 1849 at Gwynfil, was with his grandmother Ceinor in the 1861 census. Later he was shown with William Rowlands snr and Margaret as Rowlands, as son. William Rowlands lived to 77, dying in 1901 after the census, and died at the same age as Daniel Rowlands! William Rowlands was born in 1824 at Gwynfil and baptized at the Calvinist Baptist Chapel in Llandewbrefi and was a horse dealer, jockey, cattle drover and farmer. He had sister Mary Rowlands born in 1819, a year after her parents' marriage. It does seem that I am close to Daniel Rowlands as the chapel for the baptisms is the one with the statue of Daniel Rowlands in the cemetery, at Gwynfil. My father looked very like Daniel Rowlands, as did his father. If anyone were able to help me bridge that gap of maybe 2 generations, I would be most grateful. The chapel at Gwynfil was not completed when David Rowlands was born in 1797 and I cannot find his birth record. He would not have been baptized in the church of Wales. Ann Rowlands, daughter of William and Margaret nee Jones, but later Edwards, married William Evans of Llanelly, Carmarthenshire and had several children. She died in 1900, a year before her father. She had siblings Ceinor Rowlands born in 1855 and dying in 1925 unmarried, David Rowlands born 1857 Llandabarn-Odwyn, Elizabeth Rowlands born 1863 and Mary Rowlands born 1860 and above mentioned William Rowlands 1849/1850 all in the Llanbadarn Odwyn or Gwynfil area settlements in the Llandewibrefi parish. Not much success in identifying the latter siblings except Ceinor, an unusual name.

Hi, After many years of searching, I believe I may have made a break through tonight on tracing a little on my Great Grandfather. I would be extremely grateful if someone would offer to check the records for Tregaron Union Workhouse for the admission and any further details for Richard Foster (possibly Richard James Foster) between 1891 and 1901. According to family lore, Richard was orphaned, and he never spoke about his past. Kind regards, Gill
