Hastings in Wisbech St.Peters.
Trying to find a link with any Hastings in Wisbech circa 1610,particularly a Barnard Hastings who married in St.Clements,Cambridge in 1635 and a John who began a family in Great Eversden around 1598. Has anyone found a Barnard b. abt..1615 or a John b.abt 1578 who may have been the brother of a Richard b.abt 1580? Richard had a number of children in Wisbech, one of whom,Henry, may have been a butcher b.abt 1612 and who died 17 July 1657 All in Wisbech.. Any connection between the Barnard family and the Hastings family would be appreciated. Marian.
EDIS, Elsie
Does anyone have any information on Elsie Zora EDIS, born about 1870. Her father was Lowe Edis, but her mother was possibly not his wife, Missoria. She went to the USA in about 1890. She does not seem to appear in any census, or on the BDM site, though she may be on the Wisbech parish records. Mary.
I would love to hear from any descendants of the Meekins family who moved from Bury St Edmunds to Wisbech early in the 20th century
I'M looking for information about Lowe Edis born C1848, Wisbech, Cambridgeshire. He married Missouri Alice Pheonix born C1846 in Holbeach, Cambridgeshire. Lowe Edis was an interesting character who was imprisioned in England, appears to have been a bigamist, left his family in England and started another in America and came to an untimely end as a result of murder. Do you know any more about Lowe Edis, his family here in England or in America where he died? I would be very interested to add more details to his life and those of his family. I would especially like to track down some photos. I am directly decended from the Phoenix line and am in touch with individuals who are decended from other lines in the tree. Please get in touch if like us, you are researching this family or one of those connected to it. Many thanks, Rebecca

red mail Wisbech St Peter's Duffs, Leonards and Coopers.
My great grandad Frederick married Charlotte Duff in 1847. Their daughter Emma was born in 1873 in Wisbech and they later moved to Rotherhithe. Frederick's father was Simon Leonard, a bricklayer, perhaps originally from Mildenhall/Barton Mills Suffolk( to be proven!) and if so his mother was Ann Kimmons. Ann died in 1826, six years after marriage and leaving two small sons at least-Frederick and Isaac Leonard. Charlotte Duff was the youngest daughter of James Duff born circa 1873-where I don't know as he died in 1850 before places of birth were mentioned on the census-would love to know! Charlotte's mother was Jane Cooper born 1787 in Wisbech. I would love to hear from anyone who thinks they might be linked. James and his family seem to have been the first Duffs in Wisbech. A Sarah Duff aged 77 died there in 1830 and also a William Duff aged 44 in 1833-doubtless relations. I have found several Duffs in Lincolnshire census entries but nothing to link up. James was a gardener. Frederick Leonard was a railway platelayer and claimed to have been born in Holborn.

red mail Jacob BEAGLE(S) b. c1808
possibly married JANE BALLS c. 1831. She was born c. 1811, perhaps in Lincs. Their son, Frederick, my g.grandfather, was born at Great Lane, Wisbech on 15.3.1840. Jane and Frederick appear in the 1841 census at Wisbech St. Peter with a family of 12 Beagles, adults and children, but no Jacob. Jacob is recorded as dying of consumption @ canal sides, Wisbech, in the presence of Mary Ann Beagle(s) on the 6th March, 1850 - but no mention of Jane. Other records suggest that there was a confusion of Beagles in and around Wisbech in the 1840s and '50s and there was even a "Beagles' yard but it is not easy to trace relationships. Can anyone help, please?
