red mail Edward R. Hughes, b. 1845 Wales
My g Grandfather Hughes became a naturalized US citizen in 1869. No recores show where in Wales he was born but I have an old phamphlet "LLandudno & Disitrict. Beautiful North Wales" 16 Monster Views In Colour Photography. Probably from the 1890's - no motor cars, women in long dresses, Marine Drive completed, streetcar. The family story is that he was from a prominent family and when he was young he had some difficulties in Wales so his family sent him to the US. He bought a farm in Venedocia, Van Wert Co., Ohio, USA and married Mary E. Evans of Delaware Co., Ohio who's father was from Welshpool, Montgomeryshire, Wales. Venedocia was an American Welsh colony founded to keep the Welsh ideals and culture alive. My grandmother, Harriet (1876) grew up speaking Welsh.

I am interest in all and any connections - regardless of who recent or far back. POINT OF INTEREST - Several years ago I made brief contact with a person I presume was a young teenager - he sent me an email asking why I was interested in his great great grandparents and what business was it of mine. I am happy to share everthing I have with anyone who is either interested or may be related. This includes emailing scans of birth certificates etc.

Two children - Eric (born 1919) died in WW2 and Dorothea, who married Richard C Waltho in 1938. The family lived at "Guildford" in Lloyd Street and "Guildford" in Claremont Road. Can't find any children born to the Walthos, neither can I find Dorothea and Richard Waltho's deaths in the indexes. They appear to have vanished - perhaps emigrated? Any help or suggestions gratefully received.

Need information please on David Hughes who migrated to Australia in 1844 or earlier. He is said to be related to Australia's Prime Minister Billy Hughes. When Billy's mother Jane nee Morris died, the 6-year-old child was sent to Llandudno, Caernarvonshire to live with his mother's family and attended school. His father William Hughes, a joiner, remained in London. He is shown in the 1881 census as having been born in Holyhead but I cannot find an entry for him there. He may have been born in Llandudno. I have a likely David Hughes, born on 27 Feb.1825 at HOLYHEAD to William Hughes and Mary Ellis married there on 15 April 1816. I need to establish a connection between David and William Hughes.
