Alfred Ward - (Ford - Buckinghamshire)
I am trying to find out what happened to my 2 x Gt Grandparents, Alfred Ward b 1841 and Ellen Ward, nee Wallis, b c1839, after their son, Alfred James Ward, committed suicide in 1882 at the age of 19. Alfred Ward senior was born in 1841 at St Ann's Hill, Wandsworth, and was the son of Henry Ward & Ann (nee Little). He was a Policeman and he, his wife and children lived at Vineyard Lodge and also 3 Cedar Cottages in Richmond, Surrey, during 1871-1882. Apart from Alfred James, the other children were Emily Emma b1862, Sophia b1866, Henry b1868, George b1871, Arthur John b1875, Ellen Amelia b1877 and Eliza b1880. I cannot find Alfred or Ellen on either the 1891 or 1901 Census and think Ellen may have died by this time, but I don't know where as Ward is not an easy name to research. Ellen Ward's father was John Wallis, a Tailor, and she gave her place of birth as Greenwich on the 1871 Census and Borough, London, on the 1881 Census, but I cannot find a birth registration for her or find her in earlier Census Returns. Alfred Ward retired from the Police in 1883 and by 1886 his marriage to Ellen had broken down. Alfred by then was landlord of the Queens Head in Wing, Buckinghamshire, and seems to have been estranged from his children. Ellen took him to Court in Wandsworth for maintenance for herself in August 1886 and after that they both disappear. Alfred re-appears on the 1911 Census with a second wife, Emma (previous surname unknown) living at Sunnybank, Ford, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. Alfred died on 27/10/1918 and left two cottages in Ford to his wife Emma. Any information about this family would be gratefully received particularly in relation to the second marriage as I have not been able to find where this took place.

Gosset, Gardiner, Laing. - (Horton - Buckinghamshire)
We are trying to find the connection between John LAING and Lydia Whiteford BAILEY who married at St Michael's Horton on 6th January 1826, and Anna Maria GARDINER. Anna Maria was a witness to the above marriage. Her maiden name was GOSSET and she married James Ballard Gardiner at Marylebone in 1817. They appear to have lived at Horton House where he was shown as Major Gardiner. In 1848 he is shown as a Commissioner to the Brunswick Estate in Hove and had connections to or owned Nos 4 and 5 Brunswick Square. He died at his London address in 1851 by which time he was Lt Col Gardiner. Anna Maria lived at No 4 Brunswick Sq from 1854 where she died in 1877 aged 91. John and Lydia Laing had a daughter Adelaide GARDINER Laing who died in August 1831 aged six months and is buried at St Michaels together with her mother, d1836 and father, d1869.
