My great-great grandfather Charles DAVIES was born in Beaufort in about 1849. I have his marriage certificate which shows no father. I haven't yet found his exact birth details but in the census for 1861 there is a grandson Charles DAVIES living with his grandmother and father or uncle.He is at 11 a coal miner which he was but I wondered if anyone else was looking into this family tree . I am keen to trace his mother and father.

William and Elinor Griffiths were farmers at Gwenddwr they had a son James in 1844 who married twice and had 13 children in total. The 1881 census show his son David then 9 and daughter Eleanor then 7 as born at Crickadarn. This census also shows a daughter Julia aged 13 and Margaret aged 16 as well as wife Margaret aged 38. My grandmother Ruth was the youngest born about 1881 when they had lost the farm and moved to Abercarn, Monmouth. I do not know the names of his first wife or his other 7 children. Margaret was born at Llyswen in 1843 and was i think a Morgan.

I am currently researching a book on the community of Langley, British Columbia, during the Great War. One of the soldiers I am researching is Valentine Llewellyn Gratrex Davies, son of Edward Gratrex Davies and Elizabeth Morgan Davies and brother of Edward John Gratex Davies and Gwenllian Gratrex Davies. Valentine was killed in action while serving with the 7th Canadian Infantry Battalion. His brother Edward married Edie Bannister and died in the mid-1920s in Weston super Mare. She later married Leonard Guy. Gwenllian married Thomas H Gwyther and was apparently predeceased by her children Margaret and Edith. Thomas was a banker in the west country and the couple retired to Melbourne. Edward Gratrex Davies was a prominent barrister and his siblings were Rev Henry Charles Davies, David Davies and Emily Davies. I would like to connect with family members for more information.

I am looking for Mary Ann PRICE, father John PRICE, tailor and mother Mary PROBERT, last seen in the 1871 census, when she is with her mother Mary, step-father George PRICE (also a tailor) and other siblings. She was a shirt maker and single at that time. I cannot find a marriage or burial for her at Glasbury, where other members of the famly were married and buried. I have searched and searched the 1881 census for her, single or married, with birthplace Glasbury or Velindre or even just Breconshire. Can anyone help?

My grandfather was born in Glyntawe and lived in Penwyllt a good deal of his life. I have him in the 1901 census living with his uncle aged 10 but where was he 1901 to 1922 when he was ordained at St Asaph and then in 1922 he was living in Penwyllt.Thomas Morgan's father(Thomas Morgan also) was killed in a quarry accident in 1890 and my grandfather was born one week later. My great grandmother did not bring my gardfather up her name was Rachel Morgan nee Powell and possibly later Jones as Ibelieved she remarried and lived at Gwauniallt Farm Seven Sisters If anyone can shed a light on the above it would be great!

can anyone help?.i am seeking help with the father and his familly of phoebe williams, born 1-8-1841 in merthyr cynog and after marriage in 1861 to jonathan parry williams moved to sychnant llanafan fawr for many years. her mother was margaret williams born about 1821 and i believe margarets dad was rees. phoebe was born before margaret married and i think she married into the family of william williams esquire, possibly one of his brothers.phoebe was staying with him as his neice at 1861 census, at 33 glaswessin, they were landowning farmers. the reason i would like information is that my grandad was left without parents as a youngster as phoebe died from breast cancer in her 50s and because she married against her fathers wishes she was disinherited and only had an old servant deliver her a bird every xmas,and had no contact with her family,i think she eloped. it had always been my mums dream to find out about her grandparents but computers were not there for her use or mine untill recent. unfortunately she died age 91 last year ,now it has become my quest. williams was the name before and after on most sides. kind regards and many thanks to all who can help

Trying to find out anything more about my great great grandfather born around 1808. Have found him on Censuses 1841-1871 and think he died around 1875. Was married to Sarah (maiden name not known) and had children called Thomas, Sarah (died young I think), Anne, John, Rees (my great grandfather) and Mary Ann. An 1861 Llandeilo'r Fan census shows a Mary PRICE, Widow age 57 farmer born Llanwrtyd, Breconshire and family. Included on this census is a WILLIAM JONES (UNCLE)age 67 a retired butcher (blind)born Llangammarch, Llandeilo'r Fan. Our William Jones (butcher) had a daughter Sarah who first married a Scott and then a William Rees of Merthyr. The latter were married in Builth in 1866 and one of the witnesses was a Thomas Price. We are finding it difficult tracing Sarah's father so could this William Jones, UNCLE to the Price family be the connection we are looking for?

James BEVAN said to be of Llanfechan, married, at Llanafanfawr Church on 7th February 1729 (1730), Eleanor PUGH (of Llanafan). His burial in April 1781 was at Llanafan Church, from Hendy. His children were baptised at Llanafanfawr; but the eldest, Charles, followed by his son Charles, appear to have inherited Hendy. The younger Charles (1760-1843) was buried, as was his wife Joan, at Llanfechan Church, as the headstones attest. It looks as if the family perhaps even before James, had associations with Llanfechan. James BEVAN is my 5 X Gt grandfather, and I should like to explore the family's asociation with this parish.

Samuel Williams married Catherine Davies both fron Llanfilo Breconshire. Samuel was born 1814 and Catherine 1818. After their marriage in 1837 they went to Bedwelty (Blaenavon) Monmouthshire and Samuel worked as an iron miner or contractor fpr the Iron Mills.

Seeking any information regarding Cooper family recorded at 66, Worcester Street, Llangattock, in 1881 Census. Father was George (born c.1851) a miner, mother Mary A (born c.1855). Ellen Cooper (born c.1879) was my Great Grandmother. She is recorded with brothers Arthur and Frederick and may well have had a number of younger sibblings. In 1900 Ellen gave birth to an illegitimate daughter, Mary Ann. Shortly afterwards Ellen entered Newport Union Workhouse where she remained until transfered to Wooloston House, Chepstow. We lose track of her there in June, 1931. Any information regarding Ellen or her family would be much appreciated. Greg

The family remained in Breconshire until about 1864 when they moved to Ystrad area of Glamorgan and the Rhonda to take up coalmining. Morgan Price died 1886 Llantrisaint,Glamorgan and Jane died 1875 Ystrad, Glamorgan. The 10 children were: 1. John (Morgan) Price b. 1835. Moved to New Zealand about 1860. 2. William Price b. 1838 Llywel area and died 1889 in coalmining accident in Pencoed, Glamorgan. William married Mary Lewis in 1859. 3. Anne Price b. 1840 Llywel married David Jenkins and lived in the Llantrisaint area of Glamorgan. 4. Daniel Price b.1842 Llywel married Ann Jenkins in Glamorgan in 1865. 5. Sarah Price b. 1844 Llywel married Henry Griffiths in 1863 in Breconshire. They eventually moved to Iowa, USA and then settled in Washington state, USA. Sarah died Las Angeles, California in the 1920's. 6. Thomas Price b. 1846 Llywel and died 1872 Heol Fach, Ystradyfodwg, Glamorgan. Thomas did not marry. 7. Isaac Price b. 1849 in Llywel married Ann Davies (born Carmarthenshire) in 1871 in Glamorgan. Isaac and Ann came to Iowa, USA in 1881 and coalmined in the area of Albia and Hiteman. Isaac Price died Hiteman, Iowa in 1923. 8. Morgan Price b. 1852 Llywel married Elizabeth Davies in Glamorgan in 1870. Morgan and Elizabeth came to USA and coalmined in the area of Albia and Hiteman, Iowa. Morgan died 1923 in Hiteman, Iowa. 9. Lewis Price b. 1855 Llywel married Margaret Ann Davies in 1876 in Glamorgan. Lewis and Margaret Ann came to the area of Albia and Hiteman, Iowa USA where they coalmined. Lewis died 1909 in Hiteman, Iowa. 10. Eliza Price b. 1858 Llywel and died 1859 Llywel. Her burial place is not known. Eliza accidentally drowned as a very young child. His son, also Thomas, was born at Cwmbwch Isaf in 1826 though not found that yet on the maps - can see Cwmbach Fawr and Cwmbwch Fach on modern maps. They also lived at Tebath, Shap Agave and Glanwhydttong (spellings could be wrong).

My great grandparents were married and worked in Penderyn. David was born in Fishguard(I think) in1833 Mary was born in Craig-y-Forest in 1841 David worked at Penderyn Lime and Silica works and prior to leaving for the states (1861 Census says he was a Quarry Man in Penderyn-Age 27) kept the Lamb Hotel at Hirwaun or the Lamb Hotel at Penderyn. Mary was staying at the large Ysgubor (Sp?) Fawr farm, where she was a maid, near Penderyn at the time of the wedding although her family home was at Godregraig, Ystalyfera. Mary is listed in the 1861 Census of Wales as the wife of David Gibbon in Pendryn, Breconshire, Wales age 20. They were Married in Penderyn 22 Dec 1860. David was also a Deacon at the Baptist Chapel and taught Sunday School.Mary Lewis was staying at yshubot(sp?) Fawr farm Penderyn at the time of the wedding. Should study the gravestones in Penderyn. They immigrated from Herwin, Aberdare, Glmorganshire to America in about 1866. David may have had a brother there too possibly named Levy or Levi. The mystery is who were David's Parents???. And where?

Lab., Margaret 40 (b.1801) Mary (20) b.1821, Elizabeth (19) b.1829, David (10) b. 1831 John (7) b.1834, Ann (5) b.1836 and Sarah (2) b.1839. They are all shown to be born in Breconshire.

Does anyone have any information on my gg uncle Thomas Williams, born Llanfeugan/Llanvigan in about 1838. His parents were John Williams (1809-1875) and Sarah (1811-1884). He moved with the family to Llanthetty/Llanddetti where he is living at the time of the 1861 census but I can´t find him after that until his death on November 6th 1915 when his home was Hafod Cottage, Dowlais. He was buried at Beniah, Talybont.
