red mail Turnbulls in Eccles and Overmains
Looking for a family of Turnbulls who were in the Eccles and Kelso area from at least 1748 to 1760. William Turnbull is listed as being from Overmains on two of the children's OPR entries. I believe Overmains is the estate of the Watson family but I would like to know where it was. William married Mary Mean/Mein and had the known following children: John born 06 Nov 1748 location unknown -- James born c1749 possibly the one listed at St. Boswells 24 Sep 1749 -- Frances born 23 Jun 1752 Eccles ; she married Thomas Fraser 13 Feb 1799 at St. Cuthbert's, Edinburgh -- Jean born 02 Jun 1754 Kelso -- Robert born 8 Feb 1760 Kelso ; he married Agnes Fairbairn 7 Jun 1788 in Stichill -- according to Frances' marriage entry William was deceased before 1799 and worked as a gardener looking for any information about the family or Overmains

Thomas Creak who died in 1847 aged 75 was the owner of Whitrig farm. He also owned land and two houses in Temple Village. Whitrig farm was owned by the HUME family in 1484 later Lord Hume. The Creak name died out through deaths in South Africa and Australia. The name was also spelt Creacke and Craik in Temple Village. The family has three prominent headstones in the Eccles Church Graveyard. David Creak was a decendent of one of the lessor Spotswood families but he was born on the Spotswood Estate in 1714 from Richard a Creak decendent.
